How to tell whether period or vaginal tearing?

I had sexual intercourse with my boyfriend today and we didn't properly lube so there was friction. I was fine after a little pain until an hour later I developed pain and some bleeding. The bleeding was very unlike my usual periods so I knew something was wrong but then again it was light. Later that day the spoting turned to larger amounts of blood and it has been about 5 hours of bleeding with moderate pain. I do not know what to look for for vaginal tearing this could be my period because I was supposed to start yesterday but the blood seems different and my period is very different form this. Please help!

Hi,
If you don't believe this is due to your period, and the bleeding (moderate to heavy) with pain persists for more than a day, you should definitely have this looked at by a doctor immediately... Otherwise, bleeding should stop within the day, but the pain may linger for a bit longer; you can take a pain med. like acetaminophen or ibuprofen for relief. Also, you can take a warm sitz bath (mix 1 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide to warm bath water) 2x daily. Applying ice packs to your vulva can also help decrease pain and swelling. Keep the area as clean as possible. Avoid sexual activity for at least a week, or more... Hope you see some relief soon
