I have burning during my period

I am on birth control pills. Every month I am taking the pills but I always have breakthrough bleeding and I've been on birth control for over a year now. The breakthrough bleeding occurs about halfway through the pill pack and it's annoying and very unpredictable. I don't know how to stop it. Also during my period I have several days of very dark brownish reddish staining. Sometimes it comes out in gooey clumps. But during the dark staining I have a intense burning pain in my vagina. It's hard to explain but basically the inside of my vagina feels like fire is coming out of it and it's very painful and will go on and off for about 3 days during my cycle. I have been to doctors but nobody seems to know what it is. Any ideas?
