Is my hymen normal?

im 15 almost 16 and im really worried that my hymen isnt normal, my boyfriend and i have tried to break it but it hurts too much. I've looked at diagrams but they're too confusing so i thought the easiest way would be to post a picture as i dont really know what they are supposed to look like. To me it looks like its completely blocking the opening but my periods are completely regular so there must be a hole somewhere to allow blood to come out! If you could let me know whether it looks normal then that would be great as im worrying:/

Hello,
The hymen looks normal from the photograph. Pain during intercourse can be due to vaginismus(reflex tightening of the muscles at the opening of your vagina);vaginal dryness etc. Insufficient arousal causes by less foreplay or psychological cause like stress can be treated by spending more time in foreplay which would increase the vaginal secretion. You can use water-soluble starch based lubricant such as KY Jelly – these are similar to natural lubrication and should be applied to the area around the lips (vulva) and vagina just before intercourse takes place; vaginal moisturizers used 2-3 times a week, Vaseline etc.

If the symptoms persist then get a pelvic examination done from a gynecologist.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
