No period for years then BAM!

8 years ago I had my left ovary remove due to a cyst and had the tube on the right tied at the same time.   I never had a period after that until now.  Could there be something going on or did it just start up again after 8 years?..I am 51 years old and had hoped that I was finally over that monthly curse!

Hello,
Causes of post menopausal bleeding could be ovarian cysts, cervical causes especially cervical cancer, fibroids and endometriosis, diseases of pituitary gland, hormonal imbalance of estrogen and progesterone, thyroid hormone imbalance and cervicitis. Your doctor may consider tests like blood sugar levels, thyroid function test, prolactin, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSA), estrogen, and testosterone. Imaging studies, such as ultrasound, X-ray, and CT scan or MRI brain may also be recommended in certain individuals.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Hi,
It is not normal to restart a period after having no periods for 8 long years. This should be considered as post-menopausal bleeding and the cause for the same needs to be investigated. A pelvic examination, Pap smear and an ultrasound scan should be done to make a diagnosis. It is necessary to rule out both benign and malignant conditions. Consult a gynaecologist for an evaluation.
The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor. Take care and keep us posted.
