Uti question

I have been taking 500mg of cipro for the past two days. I've had light chest pain, on and of body numbness, and a few other odd symptoms. After my period, I kept having the urge to pee even when I went and my uti strip said I had blood in my urine..so my doctor put me on cipro for five days. It seems I'm probably allergic to it and I don't want to take anything else. Would a zpak work for me? I've taken three Benadryls today just to rid of the horrible symptoms. I'm only 18 and pretty fed up with medicines.

Hi, no one here can tell you what would and won't work for you.  Cipro is really the gold standard for treating UTI's as that class of antibiotics are most effective for the pathogen that generally causes a UTI.  However, if you aren't tolerating it, you can and should call your doctor.  They will best advise you on an alternative.  I would not try to make this decision on your own.  The Z pak is a different class of antibiotic altogether as it is Zithromax and the pack is just how it is packaged to give a complete course of treatment.  Talk to your doctor about treatment alternatives for your UTI.  good luck

Just to add to it, I'm allergic to 8 medicines and now this is 9. I have a fear of medicines now because of all the reactions I've had. I took cipro twice before, only for 3 days because of odd symptoms like this but the doctor keeps putting me on it for a uti. I heard zpaks could work.
