Very Painful Periods!!

I am still young (young enough to the point where my mom still controls my medicine). I have extremely painful periods. I cry, throw up, and usually miss a whole day of classes due to cramps. I've seen a doctor and they suggested birth control but my family tries to stick to the catholic faith with that topic. My mom was put on birth control not long after that due to an extremely heavy flow. I want to be on birth control for the same reason she is (a better cycle) but she is convinced I will have sex. Any advice or ideas to help?

Hi there.  Well, you aren't using the pill for birth control but for management of your period and pain control.  I'm Catholic as well and they do make that differentiation.  So, if you need the pill to have a normal period and to not have such strong menstrual symptoms, it would make sense to take it.

You could try signing a contract with her.  Think of something that would be horrible to lose and if you were to have sex, you'd have it taken away.  ??

I have never been able to control my menstrual cramps with what I eat but I have found regular exercise to help, getting proper rest, advil for pain.

But really, super heavy flows and cramping like that can be regulated.  I'd just appeal to your mother on this and tell her the truth.  If you wanted to have sex, you'd easily be able to get a condom and so SEX isn't what this is about.  good luck

I know what you're going through my sister goes through the same thing ...You should really watch what you eat as far as candy and especially chocolate but if you keep track of your period and about two weeks left for your period to start, stop eating candy, chocolate, and any other sugary snacks and also soft drinks and start eating Kale salads with your favorite dressing and other healthy choices...this will help alot with your painful periods and let your mother know about it too! And I suggest you not do any birth control ..hope this will work
