Vaginal cut - help at my wits end!

For the last 6 months i have experienced discomfort during intercourse, always in the same area. Afterwards when going to the toilet to urinate it stings so bad and sometimes theres a spot of blood when i wipe. For the next few days i have intense itching which drives me crazy. This is repeated each time i have sex.  Initially i went to the drs who took a swab and precribed antibiotics for what they thought was vaginitis. Swab came back clear and symptoms persisted. I abstained from sex for 3 months to help clear whatever it was. After 3 months my husband and i resumed sex and straight away i had the same discomfort, extreme stinging during urination followed by extreme itching. I got my husband to have a look down there and he could see a small cut inside the vagina. The cut is the exact area i have been experiencing the pain. I went back to the dr who could not see the cut which i was annoyed about as i don't think she looked hard enough. Dr has prescribed a strong cortisone ointment which i have only just started using today. I'm not holding out hope as this ointment appears to be used for eczema. Dr has referred me to gyne but it will probably take ages to get in to see them as its through the public system. Other things i should note i am post menopausal  (early menopause as a teen) i am 34 years now and take the pill as a form of hrt. My husband has been my only sexual partner for last 15 years and neither of us have any std's. Has anyone had this? How do i make the cut heal. If 3 months of no sex hasn't helped what will?
