I started taking Levora birth control pills at the end of February. I had been on this brand before, years ago, with no complications after being prescribed Ortho-TricyclineLo which was a nightmare. It was recommended to me to start taking BC due to potential hormonal imbalances (potentially PCOS due to excessive hair growth) and this lined up with a new sexual relationship so I agreed even though I prefer not to use hormonal birth control.
The first month was fine, the second month I had some heavy breakthrough bleeding. A few months later I also had some early spotting.
Now, at the end of August, I felt like I had a yeast infection coming on which is a very common occurance for me and has been since I was young. I treated it with my usual 1-day Monistat suppository and two days later I noticed that there were some red specks in my discharge that almost looked like small red pepper flakes (sorry for the visual) which is something I have never experienced before. I thought maybe it wasn't a yeast infection but instead something else like bacterial vaginosis. I went to my doctor the next day and as I was sitting in the waiting room I started to full on bleed. The doctor said it looked like I was getting my period....but I am still on active pills. She tested me for pregnancy (negative) and a couple of STDs and everything came back negative. I'm cramping like it's my period but its been 4 days now and the bleeding is still pretty heavy which is atypical for me and this length of time for a period is atypical also.
I'm concerned, especially since I've never had those specks before my period. I currently don't have health insurance for a month so I need to wait until early October for when my new coverage kicks in.
Any advice? Should I continue with my pills for this next month? Any ideas what this could be? I'm 27 and otherwise healthy.
