Dawn, talk to your doctor.  There are known ways to treat that are successful!  A doctor sounds involved with your treatment.  good luck

Bacterial Vaginosis is caused by bacteria.  It is an infection.  Sadly, we can not just clean out our vaginas because in actuality, there is a good amount of 'good' bacteria there.  We need that bacteria to help combat things like yeast overgrowth.  Years ago, the medical community agreed that douching or using things to clean out the vagina is actually detrimental to vaginal health.  Bacterial vaginosis is treated with antibiotics.  Often our partners need treated as well.

Luck to the poster in treating this and getting relief as quickly as possible.

Hi Mom, I have never said douche you are adding things in, I said a nice sea salt warm bath and let the water get inside her, that is not douching.
Please try reading and not adding, things that are not there.

I asked YOU to clarify when I said are you speaking of a bath and you then talked about women on the beach.  Sitting in a bath is one thing but how does a woman 'get it inside of her'.  But it is a mute point.

BV is treated with antibiotics.  Hope the poster is able to clear it this time around but needs to discuss with her doctor about treatment for her sexual partner.  he may not go to the beach.  Lots of luck to the poster.

Just checked back in to see how the original poster was doing.  BV is a pretty serious bacterial infection, and can migrate up into the reproductive tract and cause pelvic inflammatory disease, which can cause sterility.  It really merits a doctor's care.

For what it is worth, I have never had a vaginal infection and have only swum in the sea once in my life.  (I live in a cold climate.  We wade.)  It does not sound like the two things (vaginal health and swimming in the sea) are statistically correlated.  I do think the fact that I've never had a vaginal infection is because I don't douche.  My doctor tells me those two things *are* correlated.

I'm sure women who swim in the sea have problems with BV.  Just because they are not advertising this on the beach with you and your wife, I don't really think you can vouch for the vaginal health of all women at the beach.

Ladies, never ever ever douche with salt water or anything else.  Proven to not be good for you.  Good luck

Hi Mom, Not putting to you as something you should do but for info, so if its so bad how comes you get all these women who swim in the sea daily, and never get any problems, both me and my wife swim in a sea salt pool daily from soon till the late summer she never gets any problems, and even from sea swimming, end of the day sea water will makes its way into a vagina even if you don't make it go there on purpose, and don't forget this has been going on for thousands of years.
Good Luck

Thanks but my vagina is fine. Perhaps sitting in a sea salt bath is what you mean but if you are implying any type of douche with it, it's not a good idea.  It clears out the natural flora and creates a ripe environment for issues.  Luck to the poster.

Be sure your partner has the same course of antibiotics at the same time.  If you are almost done with yours and he has not taken anything, start again when he does.

Hi there.  BV can be so hard to totally eradicate.  One thing they often do is give a course of the flagyl to your male partner.  While it is not classified as a sexually transmitted disease, it can be passed between partners.  So, I'd follow up with your doc and ask about this.

Never ever douche!!  Doctors will tell you that the vagina is self cleaning and putting anything there that resembles douching will compound your problems.  Not sure about the sea salt.

anyway, make sure you do keep on top of it and it should go away.  Also, I'm sure you do but cotton underwear changed whenever you swear is a good idea.  (IE:  always after a work out.)  good luck
