Brown discharge

Hi. I'm 19 years old. Today I went to the bathroom and saw there was spotting in my underwear. At first I thought I was starting my period but then I looked closer and saw it was a dark drown. This has never happened before. I have not had sex in a while. I've tried researching this and it wasn't much help. I am on birth control but this has never happened before. I don't mean to overreact but I have cancer in my family and was told I may be of high risk. Could this have anything to do with it? Or am I just being crazy. I have a gyno but it is the weekend and she is not available. Any help will be very appreciated. Thanks

Yes I started a month and month ago. I'm starting to think that the brown stuff is replacing my period because I am getting quite a bit of it just like a regular period but it doesn't smell at all like my regular period. Normally it is very irony smelling and this one is musky

I get blood clots too.  I have them typically the first day or two of my period.  I think they are normal.  I'm guessing your period is about to start or you are having break through bleeding due to hormones.  Did you say you are on birth control?

I woke up this morning and it was still continuing. I also have another question. I can't seem to get a straight answer. While I am on my period I get these blood  clump like things. I was told that they should be the size of a pea, but mine are about the size of quarters and peanuts in those cases. Is that normal? It happens all the time when I am on it. It's been like that since I first started getting one.

Hi there and welcome to the forum.  Brown spotting is typically old blood.  I actually often get this the day before my period for some reason.  It usually doesn't mean a whole lot.  I'd wait to see if you have more and if it continues, a pelvic exam may ease your mind.  But I'm guessing it is nothing at all to worry about.  good luck
