swelling of ankles

I have had sudden swollen ankles. I am still having them after 3 weeks.
I saw my dr.(she said observe) went to a walk in clinic( he had a full blood panel done) . Went back to my dr and everything came back normal and healthy, she said that a diuretic would be the next step. I also have had a hemorrhoidectomy 4 weeks before the swelling of ankles starting happening. ( ankle swelling 6 weeks post surgery) .

I went back to my dr as the ankles were getting thicker and it was painful to walk. She did a emergency ultrasound as she was concerned that I may have a clot. I also started a diuretic and we started blood thinners ( I had a friend die of a blood clot post surgery) and I did not want to wait till after the ultrasound.

Ultrasound came back fine( no clot) . Stopped blood thinner and ankles are starting come down with diuretic.

So this pill is masking what the cause is...
What is causing my ankle swelling?????
Left is worse than right.
I am getting frustrated with the dr. and I am considering going to the Mayo clinic(a family member to pay as I do not have the cash for it) The Canadian Medical System is letting me down...

FRUSTRATED!!!
HELP!!!!

thanks for the reassurance. I feel the same way!!!I think that the Mayo Clinic may be the next step. As it will take forever to get into a vascular surgeon(as I am not considered top priority)

Waking up this AM and the swelling is still there, better(obviously from the masking drug) but still there. I have stiffness on my ankle and feet.....

Frustrating!!!
have a good day!

It depends.  Swelling of the ankles is often indicative of a heart problem of some type, but it's not in every case.  Your ankles swell because your body is retaining excess fluids.  If your doctor's trying to make the symptoms going away rather than diagnosing the issue with further tests (ultrasound was a start, and a blood panel *might* show something, but there needs to be further testing once he does get the blood panel back), see another one who's going to actually care about getting to the root of the problem. A diuretic is a common treatment no matter what the cause, but you want to know the cause and fix that rather than just put a bandaid on.
