Have had slow pulse all my life, but very athletic. Still am but now 70. Rate goes under 40 now. Cardiologist I will be seeing is a St Jude guy, so he will recommend St Jude. If I see someone else she may be loyal to another brand. What brands are best for Bardycardia w/o PVC's? Is St Jude just as good as Medtronic and the others? IS there a comparative study I can research. reply to ***@****. Thanks
After my recent treatment, I asked my new Cardiologist if I could come off beta blockers and he said "Yes, I don't like them anyway. They ruin your sex life, they make you lethargic and they cause other long term side effects. I only put people on them if they have severe problems".
I should also be thinking in like vein. I was on beta blockers (cardivas 6.25) twice a day for more than an year following a heart attack. I am now sure that the bradycardia is an after effect of the continuous use of beta blocker. Now withdrawing the same , my Heart rate is 70bpm consistently. Afterall What do the physicians really know about disease conditions ?
My heart rate was 28 in hospital over a year ago when they decided to keep doubling me beta blockers. It was annoying when asleep because it would drop to 23 and all the alarms would sound. Nurses around the bed would be shouting "Ed are you OK".
It used to be a relief when they heard "Yeah, now can I get some sleep". They couldn't get my pulse above 30 and discharged me in that condition and I was back to just 1.25mg of Beta blockers. Once home I thought maybe it was locked in that mode because I was still on beta blockers and the heart couldn't recover. I stopped the beta blockers for 24 hours and hey presto, a pulse of 70 at rest again. Once back on the blockers it stayed normal. What do the Doctors know eh :) I believe they now try this technique as it worked with me and I wrote to tell them.
In one of the consulting sessions, my cardiologist detected my HR to be low and on realizing variations in the ECG admitted me in the CCU.I think I was put on Amiodarone IV and was made to rest at the hospital for 5 days.Later I was advised to go for tests to confirm Sinus Bradycardia. The Holter Monitor and Echo proved the earlier contention and thus I was advised Electrophysiology study and Permanent Pacemaker implantation. However on subsequent observations my Heart Rate was found to be consistently above 60 bpm...now at 72 bpm.No syncope or near syncope or extreme dizziness present, except for occasional spells of heart flutter and associated discomfort. It is almost three months since my first evaluation.
How low was your heart rate, sukumar? I did experience fainting spells with a heart rate as low as 35 BPM. As I recall, heart rates below 60 BPM start getting the doctor's attention. I had Brady/Tachy Syndrome and a pacemaker really helped me a great deal. I have much more energy, and am told I have more color.
