PAC's & PVC's

I've been having arrhythmia for 16 years and although I have been also assured that my PAC's & PVC's are benign, I have completely altered my lifestyle to the point of being cautious and aware of every little tiny thing I do.  I have also tried SSRI's (Lexapro, Paxil). They help with the reaction a bit but when my heart is very irritable, I fall into an abyss of anxiety and doom.
I suppose only people who are really distressed about such symptoms look at these sites, but I am wondering if there's anyone out there with arrhythmia who has mastered not being concerned or worried, and what do they tell themselves during an event  that actually convinces them that this is nothing.  Sure, when I don't feel them, I can be positive and optimistic and driven to better react next time, only to get hit by a series of flutters and strong thumbs, one after another.  How can anyone sit in peace and acceptance during such episodes???!  And this is what the doctors insist we do - live our lives as if everything is fine.  I wonder if there's a doctor out there who suffers from PVC's and actually does not get rattled when they happen.  How do you accomplish this??

TatiSC, I really agree with you - our minds are such a hinderance in so many things.

Since we know this, we need to take daily steps to change our mindset.  I can tell a huge difference when mine is positive versus feeling down.

Sometimes the simple acts of helping & supporting others can help both people which is why I think a support group is a vital thing to be a part of.

Thanks for the updates and I really hope you continue to deal well and wish you recovery from your other ailments.
I also continue with meditation, breathing exercises, physical exercises, but the biggest challenge is my stubborn mind.
Take good care

sorry it's been awhile, I've been dealing with ANS problems and not been on the pc too much

Arrggg yes that is a mistake, it's supposed to say only 1-5% of pvc's are malignant. I wish I could find some concrete numbers from research, but haven't and since I haven't been on the pc, I haven't done any more research...anyone know where to find those concrete numbers of malignant pvc's?

My experience has been this, sometimes doctors are right, sometimes they're wrong -they're humand and make mistakes, miss things and believe it or not they do feel bad when they make mistakes.   My doctor was shocked to his core when he did my ablation and my VTach sustained and went into V-Fib and my heart stopped 3 times.

Nothing they have done has pointed to a single cause or cure; and I've had a ton of tests; tried 12 combonations of medications, lifestyle changes, and therapy.  My PM/ICD has not stopped me from passing out nor has it stopped my Vtach & Vfib episodes; but I do have peace of mind knowing it has & will save my life.

You can't let your symptoms throw you in a panic; that just makes them worse.  Deep breathing & relaxation have helped me, along with a positive mind set,  but I'm at the point my other health problems have made it difficult to do what I did 6 months or even a year ago.

Thanks LarrytheAstronaut!  I hope your chest pain never comes back.  My dad use to get chest pain and although his heart was diagnosed as ok, one doctor kept telling him he might have inflammation right under the ribs/chest plate, radiating across his chest.
Was angina considered?  All exercise equipment affects you or just the bike?
You are right, so many people have so many different issues, yet the majority is told they are fine, so if we could just get rid of the fear and anxiety.
Good Luck to you and I appreciate your input.

Most of the time i get pvc's when walking, after eating, exercising. When i am on the stationary bike in the gym i get them, but i continue exercising. It wasnt always like this, i used to freak out. But coming on this site and others and being told by different doctors they wont kill me has helped alot. I wish i wouldnt get them. but i do. I have to say that i am not completely comfortable with them, they involve the heart and anything that is heart related makes one nervous, however hearing other peoples stories has helped me tremendously. The only way to move on from something is to experience it at its worst. I have been a wreck for 2 years now from fear of chest pains. The past 2 days of snow shoveling and not getting chest pain (even though i got very fast heart rate that took awhile to go down and so many pvc's i couldnt even count them) has helped me more then any words from any doctor could ever help. I continued no matter how fast my heart went, and realized ive been living in fear, which just MIGHT be irrational. I still dont know the exact mechanics of my chest pains and pvc's, but the snow shoveling puts things in perspective for me. I used to get chest pains sitting on a stationary bike with a heart rate of 115, now i took it to 180 and no pain so this will help me greatly next time i get chest pains from being on the bike. I will remember 180 beats a minute heart rate and tell myself its not my heart. SO you have to do the same, allow your pvc's to take their course, dont run and check your pulse, and blood pressure and be a nervous wreck, slowly you might realize that you will have less of them.

I admire your ability not to panic. So what do you do and think to yourself when you are actually feeling runs of PVC's?  DO you take steps to help them stop (like sitting, etc) or do you just continue with your activities as if nothing is happening.  I find this impossible to do.  I run to the couch, take my blood pressure, feel my pulse, wait, stress, panic.  Then after they finally subside, I am walking on shells worried about the next event that may take place.  It's a sucky way to live, and I can't convince myself otherwise.  I keep thinking the next event will be the one which will not self-regulate.  AAARRRGGHHH!

"I've read that only a very small percentage of pvc's ever are diagnosed "malignant" I've seen anywhere from 1-5% of all pvc's are benign"

First off that above sentence doesn't make any sense. I am sure its a honest mistake.
Anyways, ive come to ignore all my pvc's.  I used to be frightened to death by them. Inf act the first time i had a pvc was while driving and it sent me into a panic attack, and the last place you want to have a panic attack is while driving. You seem to have had pvcs and pacs for so long yet your still here, so that's one way of reassuring yourself that they wont kill you. Ive been having them for about 2 years now, and with time ive told myself if they were deadly id have been gone by now. It seems many people have them without feeling them, we just are the unfortunate ones who do feel that dreaded pause in the heart beat. I just shoveled snow and having runs of pvc's, they are very uncomfortable but i am not panicking.

Thanks for the heads up on the Heart Rhythm community.  I meant to post there, but accidentally found myself here.  I posted the same question in that forum.

I'm inspired by how you are dealing with these manifestations.  I've tried and tried and when they happen, I immediately lose myself.  HOW do you think when you're in the middle of an event?  I admire your optimism and positive reaction.  I wish so much to change my mind to one of acceptance, but it's as if my thoguts overtake me before I even realize.
What did you mean by the "benign" numbers as being 1-5%? or did you mean those for the malignant?  Thanks for responding and I get comfort from attitudes such as yours.

"I suppose only people who are really distressed about such symptoms look at these sites"

I don't know about that, I've been told that I've handled arrythmia's relatively well considering I had over 50,000 daily which were found to be malignant during an EP Study.  There is a heart rhythm forum that alot more of us with pvc's pac's post on - its on the right under related communities under Heart Rhythm.

You can't fret about them and you can let the dreaded things rule your life - all you do is waste precious energy needed in life for other things.

I've read that only a very small percentage of pvc's ever are diagnosed "malignant" I've seen anywhere from 1-5% of all pvc's are benign, still trying to get a firm % on that.

I had to be one of the ones who have malignant ones and I really honestly don't let them bother me.  All this does is make me treat each moment I do have the best it can be.  I did have a pacemaker/icd implanted to help in case they stop my heart again, but there's no 100% guarantee that will work.

So in the meantime, I live knowing I have another 40 or 50 years with something at any time could kill me...but so could a car wreck :P
