Do you recommenda taper for Tramadol?

Been taking it for 12yrs for JVA- I started running again and do not think I need it anymore- 42yrs old.  Naproxyn helps alot.  I have never missed a dose in 12yrs. Very concerned about withdrawal. Any recommendations for an additon medication to ease the process?

Thank you so very much for all the support everyone has given me!  I have started the taper.  I was taking 500mg a day of the Tramadol and since Saturday have cut down to 300mg.  Its very hard.  I work alot and get tired and bottom out alot.  I drink alot of coffee and that seems to help.  I have been taking Tylenol PM at night and that really seems to help.  I will talk to my doctor about the Effexor idea.  I will have to try it on the weekend so I dont miss any work.  I also heard Celexa is a good one for withdrawal symptoms.
Thank you so very much! You are all great!

it depends on how much you are on. I did a CT taper down from 800mg a day but I am aware that this was a dangerous thing to do. i took anti-epileptics for 3 days so I wouldn't have a fit.

taper down to a relatively small dose and then do the jump off it.

If you're on a high dose discuss this with a doctor

good luck

Hi Lucy.  Yes...it's dangerous  to CT off of Tram.  You  should talk to your doctor about a taper schedule.  WD symptoms include the usual opiate symptoms....sweating, fatigue, headaches, upset stomach, anxiety, trouble sleeping and flu like symptoms.  But unlike other opiates, you can have siezures, brain-zaps.  From what I have read...it's a pretty dangerous drug to CT from.  I would talk to your doc about a taper program.
