Hi Everyone,
I posted a question in this forum just over three months ago - the post can be found on the link below...
http://www.medhelp.org/posts/HIV---International/Condom-Broke-in-Patong-Thailand---Scared-/show/1582359
I short re-cap - I slept with a Bar Girl from Patong and during intercourse the condom broke. Immediately I was worried about the hight risk of HIV infection - especially in Thailand where approximately 1% of the population are estimated to have HIV. The last three months have been extremally stressful however the fantastic advice and optomism about my odds of HIV infection provided from the Doctors kept me going.
Last week I had a HIV Antibody test done at the 3 Month mark (Just over 12 weeks). Today was results day and I am pleased to say I have tested NEGATIVE for every STD including HIV. The results are conclusive and now I plan to get on with my life again.
If I can offer any advice to others currently in the same situation it would be to...
a) Listen to the advice and experiences of others on this site and get tested. The results are definative in accordance with the advice given - there is no need to keep freaking out once these results are given.
b) Getting through the months before the test and through the tests itself by no means easy. Waiting 1x week for the results seemed to take an eternity. I confided in one very close friend whose encouragement kept me going, I couldn't have done it without him and I'm glad I knew someone knew what I was fgoing through.
c) Think about what you are doing and the consequences - if you arn't prepared to live with them - re-consider. Easier said than doen when a lot of beer is telling your willy who is boss instead of your brain. After going through what I've been through - the risk isn't worth the stress that follows.
Always wear a condom that fits correctly and above all - get yourself tested for peace of mind.
Good Luck
