Hi,
I hope someone can a-cyst me in answering some questions. ;)
About a month ago, I had an ovarian cyst burst. I went to the doctor and had an ultrasound in office. He said it burst, gave me some medication and that was it. However, 2 weeks later the pain returned and so yesterday, I went back. The cyst is still there. While doing a second ultrasound, I told the doctor that my aunt had ovarian cancer, and my other aunt had a cyst with precancerous cells. After I told him that he said "hmmm" then "I want to schedule you for a CT scan." After the ultrasound he said I have a tumor, not a cyst and that I need a CT and bloodwork. I asked him if tumor meant cancer and he said no. He wrote "benign neoplasm" on my CT paperwork, but I thought CT scans were cancer related. He gave me a lovely photo of my friend, and I have a CT scheduled for next week.
I am consumed with worry. I have been down this road before (2 months before) when doctors told me I likely have a rare tumor in the nerves in my shoulder which could be cancerous. An MRI showed nothing and I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease.
I'm 32, smoked for 10 years and have many symptoms of ovarian cancer such as hip and lower back pain, shoulder pain (which is thought to be from the autoimmune disease), abdominal pain, fatigue and sometimes have irregular bowel habits. I just had a baby 8 months ago. I had an ultrasound 2 months after giving birth and an xray of my hips in late March and nothing was noted. Should I be worried? The ultrasound shows a complex cyst/tumor with several thick walls inside of it.
Why do I need a CT? Could I be worried for nothing?
