Question about those protien shakes

I've had a few people suggest trying whey protien shakes so I went and bought one called "designer whey". Well the price was definitely designer lol, cost almost $40 for a big 2 pound tub of it. I decided to spend a little more because it lists all kinds of Amino acids both essential, non essential, branched chain and conditionally essential amino acids so I figured that would be the best one to get but my question is this, is there a specific type or amount of amino acids I should be looking for? Next time I'd like to spend a little less and if I know what to look for I could maybe save some money when buying these supplements. Thanks

I use Jillian Michaels whey protein shake. I get it at wal mart and only spend 13$. I get the vanilla flavor. It has all kinds of vitamins in it and works gret fir me. I always mix orange juice in it. It taste just like a dreamsickle. Sometimes I'll do orange juice and starwberries with it  that's really good. I've tried alot of protein shakes from ones that were 50$ (that didn't ork for me) to 13$ (which works great for me)

Lol, thanks for clarifying that for me. It's funny I've heard a lot of people complain they can't drink these protien shakes because they taste awful. I must have lucked out because this kind is delicious!! Aside from being very good nutritionally and helpful with my diet, they are very tasty. I will definitely be making these shakes a part of my regular routine. Thanks again for your feedback and advice.

as for what you have said that you're planning to start at the gym and want to lose weight, then, good news...u can drink more than the one i've told u.

apart from being a help for building muscle while training or practising any sport, protein shakes help with the weight issue ( thus these hiperproteic diets are the trend now ) because you can fill yourself with the protein shake avoiding feeling hungry and because our bodies need more calories to convert the proteins than to convert  the fat or the sugar. Not to forget that any calorie from fat or sugar that we don't burn at the end of the day is stored in our body whereas as i told above, any protein calorie in exceess is "expelled". yeah, i'm watching my weight too lol :)

i spoke of not drinking more than one from the point of view of getting the aminos needed to recover and help our system after abusing drugs for a long time. we lack of them and we need them. it's different, i think, taking an amino suplemment than taking the aminos from proteins as our body is not going to be able to convert any protein in exceed into aminos.

i might be wrong , of course, :) because all i know about this  is from what i learned here and read afterwards. This is why during my first clean months and apart from one  protein shake once in a while, eating healthy and exercising  i took ltyrosine and 5htp to help with my dopamine and serotonin leves.

I do plan on starting at the gym (as soon as I doig myself out of the financial hole active addiction left me) and maybe I will continue to buy it. I had a look at the website and looked at some independent reviews and it really is "the best" in terms of quality and since it also helps curb the appetite I can also use it to lose weight, omg now I sound like a commerical for the stuff lol. But I will only do one or maybe two little shakes a day because of what you said about anymore more being a waste. Thanks again for your feedback!

from what i've read your designer whey :) would be the isolate one which is the most expensive and the one with the best biological value  but just a mix of concentrated and isolate will do the trick.

but Imo, if you are not building muscles specifically , any protein shake works for me ( from milk, egg, soy protein ) . As for the number, there are 9 essential aminos, our bodies do synthesize the rest of the aminos but we need to eat protein to get the essentials.
oh, yeah, avoid those with aspartame and another thing, let's see how i explain myself...if we eat too much protein, our bodies are not going to be able to convert all in aminos  .. it will go to the loo. So you don't need to drink more than a protein shake per day, ok ?
