11 days for me

Today is day 11 for me off Norco....with the help of Suboxone. I started suboxone not know if I was fully(physically and mentally) addicted to my pain meds. I hurt my shoulder 2 years ago at work and was prescribed norco for my pain. About a year ago I started using it every day and the last 6 months I was downing around 10-15 pills 5/325. I work as a barista and most days I'm up around 3:30 so I would already have downed 4 by 6 am. Anyways, in the last 11 days I have felt great! I hardly ever think about them and I know in my mind that I'm ok with never taking them again! I went to the Dr. And told her that I was ready to ween off the subs already and she said I have to stay on them for at least a month. The reason I went on them was obviously for my wds but does anyone know how bad the wds are going to be after taking suboxone for a month? My dr said we are going to taper and I will hardly even notice when I'm off of them cause I won't wd at all but I find that hard to believe. I have no pain tolerance which is what got me here in the first place but I've noticed myself getting quite a bit stronger when my pain comes along rather than reach for something to take it away like tylenol or ibuprofen ( which actually works some of the time)! Also did anybody that has taken subs notice in the first couple of days that their tongue felt burnt and food and water tasted salty or is that just my weird body!  I would like to say that to all of you that could beat addiction COLD TURKEY are absolutely AMAZING in my eyes!

Yeah, it seems like they scribe suboxone for ANY pain med no matter how low the dose.  Didn't know that you can get high from it - I didn't want to go to the doctor and risk exposing my addiction and the thought of mehtadone scared me to death.  So cold turkey I am off a 120mg oxy habit for the past 2 1/2 years.  Yeah, wd's were hell, but the worst is over now at day 9 and feeling much better.  Glad I didn't go to doctor for suboxone - I was under the false pretense that it helped with the wd's but that you did not get high on them and therefore did not get addicted.  Wow, I was so wrong about that!!  Good luck to everyone here.

Just my thoughts, and remember I am no expert. I went to an inpatient treatment center for 2.5 weeks. I was on lortabs, about 15 10 mgs a day. They gave me suboxen after a couple if days and put me on a 7 day taper. I was on 2 mg by day 3. I felt great on the sub, and my wds were gone. But even on 7 days I had wds. Nothing near cold turkey wds, bit like someone said earlier, a bad cold or light flu. Very doable but still may want to jump on a Friday or take a day off just to be safe. BUT, take advantage of your time and set up an aftercare program. Start going to NA now. It was harder mentally than I thought after the jump. Prepare yourself and maybe even do an outpatient center. It has helped me. I am on day 38 now, and the first 2 weeks were the toughest. I wouldn't expect a cakewalk, but it is doable! You can do it. Just post and let us know when you "jump". I'll help anyway I can!

Just curious because I don't know the answer. But why sub for 5/325 percs?  I thought sub was for oxy and stuff like that.  With the lower side of percs couldn't you taper down?  You'll have to ween off sub so why take it?  I only ask because I don't know sub that well.

HELLO ALL, I TRIED SUBOXENE AND IT MADE ME SICK TO MY STOMACH AND BLOOD PRESSURE WENT SKY HIGH. IT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING FOR THE CRAVINGS I JUST WANTED MORE AND MORE SUBOXENE TO SEE IF IT WOULD WORK AND/OR GET ME THE HIGH IT FIRST GAVE ME. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE THAT I CAN TRY BESIDES SUBOXENE?

I would imagine u do feel pretty good..u r on a narcotic now that is so strong it would beat hydro to the ground!
I am not sure how much sub u r on but ur hydro dose since they were 5 mg pills was close to the lower end of addiction issues I have seen on this forum..u sound very upbeat..happy and euphoric
I also used/abused sub when my pills ran out..i used over twice as much hydro as u stated daily for 5 yrs...2 mgs of sub did me right for the entire day..liked it better than hydro and is why i did not use it to stop narcs...that stuff was so easy...liked it too much and i copped a buzz off of it to boot!

Good luck to u///I can only say that sub was not intended originally for low doses of weak narcotics like hydro....the wds u fear were probably bearable like a minor flu....it is the mental part that will kick ur a$$ if u r truly an addict...if u stay on sub long enuf to make it thru that portion of this process...u will be addicted to sub and have another wd to face..a much longer and harder one

Good luck and use ur judgement..I hope this dr tapers u with no consequence if he said so..lots of money in it for sub drs with 8 hrs of online training...be safe

HI we have had both good and bad sub experiences on the forum if you taper down to 2mg or below your withdrawals will be there but they seam to be very doable from that amount
most of the bad experiences have been from people trying to jump from higher doses
again this is based on what I have read and been threw with some members
it is important to seek aftercare wile on the sub it is part of the program it will help you build up your foundation so you can stand on your own 2 feet once you go off please dont skip this critical part of recovery...good luck and God bless....Gnarly

Day 20 for me on suboxone. I am not planning on jumping to early. I am building my aftercare support now. I am relaxing and enjoying my new found mood. I was clean 4 months and couldn't get the cravings to curb or get a bit of energy.

I have heard about the withdraws both ways. I have read and heard of some horror stories and also heard of some good ones. But to be no withdraws I don't believe. I am an addict and I was on heavy doses of vic and soma for 8yrs. There has to be some WD's.

I am more concerned about where will my mind set be when I come off suboxone. Am I going to get those cravings back quickly or will they just stay away. I don't think taking the pill a short time that I am going to come out feeling peachy. Recovery is a long process for everyone I think. Just because we get off pills not mean that we are not addicts. We will never be free of its clutches.
