Are you getting any outside Support?? Those meetings will teach YOU a lot about all of this. You can also pick up the phone and call a clean friend..Sticking close to this site was good too..There will always be Bumps in the Road toward Recovery. It takes one min to think about a substance and one min to re-direct yourself.
We do not want you to loose what clean time you have so please UP your Support ASAP! Staying Clean takes a lot of WORK and this will be a life long process as we continue to Grow in our Recovery! One of the BIGGEST things that has to be Changed is Triggers. We have to avoid them at all cost and learn how to deal with Life. You can also try to look this Addiction up in a Scientific Way and find out how true this is as far as the Brain goes. That ol Tape will play again & again if you do not work on this or if you even feed it just "One More Time"..I have been on here long enough to see "Red Flags" coming from a far away distance.
I am very Proud of how far you have come so far, but just know that we are still babes in the woods even at a Year or Two. It is all about growing, listening and learning all you can about this Disease and making LOTS of Changes on the way..I wish you the Best and always BE SAFE!!!

I agree! It also starts with a thought a memory not to mention this is my first summer sober... I have to admit I think about pills more than I should and to make matters even more interesting my contact texted me this morning to see if I want the pills... I erased the message from my phone and my mind... You all give me inspiration we are in this together!

Really glad you posted yesterday. If we keep our addict's thinking secret it's inviting disaster.

WAY TO GO clean on not taking it to the next level. Sit down and make a list of all the good things in your life you now enjoy by not using. The extra money, enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning with a crisp mind, rekindled hobbies you left while using, your conscious  free of all the guilt, a long life. Then add to your list all the horrible w/d symptoms. Fluid pouring out of every hole possible in your body, the shakes, bathroom issues, the horrible pit in your tummy filled with anxiety, the debilitating headaches, the elephant sitting on your heart, the restless legs, the blurred vision, I could go on and on. You did good. Very proud.

Yay!
Read your first post and was like NO NO NO!!!
Then read through and was like YES YES YES!!
I believe I wrote on this forum last night that the only way out is through.
It's totally true.
Only ONLY take narcotics if there is NO other option for dealing with pain and it is prescribed by your doctor.  Anything else is just your addiction.
I agree with the above, you got through the craving now BACK IT UP.  Get your as* to a meeting and delete those contacts.  You never know when things will get worse and you won't be able to post or talk yourself down.
Proud of you...

Holy Cr@p that's impressive. I read the whole thing, on the ledge w/ you wondering what you were gonna do. Well, that was amazing to read. Now I know what I will have to do.

It's also amazing that you even posted that. So easy just to not post and then go, oops, I relapsed. So impressive!

So glad to hear that you thought it through.  Now, you need to back that up with some action hon...deleting contacts, changing your phone number, getting to some meetings, or whatever kind of support you feel would help you.  You will always have to deal with cravings from time to time.  You have to set yourself up for success, and learn how to cope when they hit.

Good job!

I want to thank each and everyone of you for taking time out of your day to talk me off that ledge... I texted my contact and said thanks but no thanks I'm shaky but I know I did the right thing... I have to admit that the first thought  I had when I got hurt is yes I get to take pills vicodin norcos vicoprofen anything would do and in my twisted addict mind I figure since I have a prescription that's a green light, but when the doctor wasn't giving me what I wanted I wanted to take matters in my own hands... If it wasn't for this board and prayer I would have blown 10 months... Before I got any comments I was reading everyone else's story and this one comment really stuck with me there was a comment that said " To get OUT you have to go THROUGH"! So true! It's a bumpy road for all of us until we get to our smooth ride... Thank goodness were taking the journey together! Thanks and prayer to everyone! Xoxo

The pain is an excuse to give in and use.  That's not to say you don't have pain....but most likely the pain doesn't need to be treated with narcotics, and if it DID, there's a right way and a wrong way to go about seeking pain control.  Calling your dealer isn't on the list.  Like msd said, you have to give the back time to heal.  That's the best thing for an injury like that.

Your addict brain is talking you into getting pills, it's NOT the pain talking, it's the cravings.  You MUST be stronger than your brain, and tell it something different...like that you don't NEED the Norcos, and that buying pain pills from a dealer (even if to treat actual pain) is just addict behavior, plain and simple.  You've got an amazing amount of clean time in...don't go back to where you started.  Chances are, if you use, your addiction will spiral fast, and you'll actually find yourself in a worse place than you started.

You need support...go to meetings, find an addiction counselor, whatever you can do to keep you from using, until you get through this craving.  Cravings are temporary and can actually be shut down pretty quickly.  Feeding the craving with thoughts of using, calling your dealer, etc....is the very worst thing you could do.  You're feeding those thoughts.

Keep posting, and fight tooth and nail....you're in a serious danger zone, you MUST protect your sobriety with all you have.  Also, remember, if you were to get the Norcos, you would likely barely get a high anyway, and if you did, it would be short lived....you're chasing a high that you'll never experience again, and the fall out from doing that is disastrous/.

Best to you...I've got my fingers crossed that you do the right thing.

Just a perspective. I had 9 months clean then took some thinking I could manage. Fast fwd five months and I was right back where I was. And now looking back it was about two weeks before I was back in hardcore addiction mode. Don't do it!!!!!!!

Why didn't your doctor also give you pain pills?? There is your answer. The stuff he/she gave you, muscle relaxers and NSAID, does that mean it's a muscular problem or is it a  dry long term sciatic nerve problem? Your doctor is the person who diagnosed you and prescribed what he/she thinks is the proper medication...not the dope dealer.

I know exactly how you feel about the hard stuff, I'm an addict too. ...get injured...our addiction is blowing in the left ear, while our doctors (who hopefully aren't addicts) are blowing in the right ear with what they think is right. We're in recovery fighting every day for our life. So which ear do we listen to?  That's where making a choice can actually kill us. Especially if it's predispositioned. But then God steps in, if we decide to invite him...

Glad you posted. This makes me think you just might have a higher power looking out for you today...

Motrin, heating pad, rest and time.  Norco will only mask the pain and cause more problems! Don't do it! Hang on a few days and see what happens. Just don't use!!!

Hello and welcome back. I am sorry you hurt your back.
You need to give it more time to heal.
Calling your dealer and planning to pick them up is obviously not
The answer.
Congrats on 10 months clean. You don't want to start back on the road to destruction again.
Have you been attending aftercare, meetings, counseling, church?

How did you hurt your back? Does your doctor know of your
Former substance abuse? Is that why he didnt prescribe pain pills?

Ice, heat, Epsom salt baths, time along with The muscle relaxers And the naproxen.
Have you been craving and thinking about using before you hurt your back?
