Codeine Detox

hi there. I want to try and detox from Codeine ( Neurofen Plus, 200mg Ibruprofen & 12.8 mg Codeine) i have being addicted to pain killers for about 2 and a half years. it all started when i hurt my back at work when i was 19 and the doctor gave me a 24 pack of endone tablets and after i ran out i started taking neurofen plus and have being doing so ever since. to start with i was taking up to 24 tablets a day to help me get threw work. after about a month i realized i could not go 4 hours with out them i try'd to get help from my doctor the only option he gave me was to take Methadone and from what i have bing told and read up i feel that may be worse for me then the codeine. anyway about 3 months ago my faïence broke up with me because of the hours i was working so i lost it i quit my job and got depressed and started to take more tablets since then i have being taking anywhere between 30-70 tablets a day. i have started a new job about 2 weeks ago and i am sick of my hole life depending on where and how i am going to get enough pills to get me threw the day. i do not no were to start to try and detox i dont have any family and very few friends of witch none are aware of the fact that i am addicted to pain killers. i cant take time off because i have just started a new job. what i want to do is try and start to ween my self off of the drugs and get to a point were i can stop taking them completely. so i guess if anyone has any advice or information they can give me that would be very appreciated. i am living in a small town in Australia so there are not a lot of recourses for this sort of thing. thank you for your time reading my post. regards Luke

Hi, I've been using 500mg of codeine four times a day and am over 3 days into my detox (I've tried many times before) - and I feel FINE! No joke! Why - like Lostsoul30 said, try Suboxone - I'm just using it for 7 days and it is working a treat! I've written a post about it and I will continue to log my progress so all can see if it is too good to be true.

Good luck everyone - Kevin.

Right foot forward for the direction we are heading  left foot back for the all the sh*t we left behind. Who woke us up God did, God grant me the serenity to accept the things we cannot change courange to change the things we can and the wisdom to know the difference. ..............I say this over n over in my head i learned it from rehab. Just sayin

Hi Luke,
take it day by day hun,,, everyday it gets better,. I am a methadone patient due to chronic pain but  before being onm ethadone i was addicted to banging. Methadone saved my life from banging. if you dont want to go the route of methadone try suboxen. That works miracles too. Good lUck to you sweetie and pls keep us informed .

Hey luke, it sounds like your really rattled about parting with the pills and the wd's. You may want to take a look at this thread in the link below for some reference and support. This fellow just went thru wd's from codeine and pretty much documented it day by day..I'm not sure how many days he has now, I'm thinking he's closing in on a month. It was a hard fight for him the first week, but now he sounds great...Being this thread is codeine specific, I figured I'd dig it up for you so you can see a realtime accounting of what he went thru going cold turkey....

I think the real thing whats going to damage your health is not really the codeine but all that Ibuprofen, i was just reading a few days ago it can badly damage your stomach and in-fact for people who need to use large amounts they give another drug to protect the stomach (don't mean to worry you).

Methadone can be difficult to get off but it can be done just start on the smallest amount you can, enough to hold you, stop you getting sick, then reduce slowly and stop on the smallest dose possible. It takes time but you can do it. Plus you will not have to worry about where your next pills are coming from and you'll save all that money!!

Also with methadone or you might want to look at suboxone, some people think this is easier to come off than methadone, you'll know exactly how much your taking and it'll be much easier to control rather than just popping pills away.

Good luck.
