Coming off Vicodin. Been 48 hrs without.

Does anyone know if a year and a half of using ALOT of vicodin have long term affects on my body? I know it also has acetaminophen but i'm not sure excactly how much each Norco 10 has and I was using about 15 pills including soma each time I used. I used sometimes 2 or 3 days straight and would lay off a day or two. I would sometimes have alcohol with.
I know all that has to bruise your insides but I dont plan to use anymore and thats why i'm a member of this site now.

Exactly,go to your doctor and he can order a bunch of panels to make sure your doing ok.  The Liver is a pretty forgiving organ and can regenerate easily.  However, you shold have your pancreas checked out becasue long term drug use can lead to pancreatitis. Don;'t worry becasue any damage, if any at all, is usually reversable.  Stay clean and stay strong!

as domino suggested, having your liver enzymes done would help set ur mind at ease if no damage is done.  Some r more prone to liver damage....but it is likely u r ok.
I would not suggest having them checked until u are clean for a bit as the drug abuse could alter them...give them a chance to get back to normal

good 4 u 4 ur decision to be clean
keep moving forward!

If you are really concerned about this you can go to the doctor and have them run a liver panel on you.  Lots of us have had that done.......Never hurts just to have a complete checkup anyways after we stop abusing meds.        sara

It can affect your body but more than likely your liver is fine. I was taking huge amounts of acetaminophen a day for a few years while I was using and I also didn't take any breaks for a few days in between. I had a liver function test done along with other blood work and everything came back fine. The liver is an amazing organ and even if it were damaged it more than likely would have healed on its own. Like said above, I would still recommend a test just to be safe. If for some odd reason it ends up being damaged, it can heal with the help of some prescription meds. If damaged, the longer you wait to treat it the less if a chance you will have of being able to fix the problem. Like I said, more than likely everything is fine but the only way you can be certain is by getting a test done. You may want to just for piece of mind.
Congrats on finally deciding to put an end to your pill usage. With tolerance you would have just kept taking more and more every day and eventually you would wind up with some permanent damage or could even end up killing yourself from the inside out. Plus it's not worth of the mental anguish of searching for pills, spending every last cent on pills, and just living the hectic life the being high all the time brings. You found a great place where you can vent, talk about anything, and never be judged. You will learn a lot about addiction including the steps you have to take to stay clean. With addiction you can't just toss the pills and leave it at that. You have to constantly work to stay clean.
Welcome to sobriety!

Congrats on your way to getting clean! All I know is that Vicodin contains Tylenol and your liver can safely handle 4000 milligrams of Tylenol a day if you don't drink and have a good liver. But that is only for short periods of time. If you take Tylenol everyday long term 2000 is what Dr.'s say is the safe amount. I used Vicodin for a long time as well. I took more that 4000 milligrams of Tylenol everyday for the better part of 2 years and my liver is fine. If you are worried go to your Dr. and have you liver checked its nothing more than a simple blood test. I hope everything turns out to be okay. I'm sure your fine as long as your not vomiting blood or jaundice (yellow skin and eyes) or anything like that. Best wishes to you!
