How does being an athlete effect withdrawls?

I know this may sound weird but here is the situation. There are three people in my house addicted to oxy 30mg. Me I take about 10 a day, hubby around 20, and mother in law about 5. Anyway, I work out and sweat for a good 2-3 hours a day. I am wondering if this will make going off it easier or harder... faster or slower? I want to get off but I don't know how. I am scared to death of losing everything... these drugs are sucking the life from us. He has tried to get clean in a facility twice with a suboxone taper and then once at home. The rehab stints were only for 4 or 5 days and were not followed up by any counseling. I guess I am asking for advice for all of us.

Ecercise helps me tremendously...gets the toxins out of your body and gets the endorphins going...as soon as you feel up to it and even before u feel up to it...go for it...the first day off the pills i only made it 20 minutes on the treadmill, the next day 30 and up from there...it was aftern and during exercise that i felt at peace

Im an athletic 43 year old male. Been doing Norco 10mg almost daily. I started with 7.5 mg about 4 days a week 3 years ago. I run about 23 miles per week and workout weights 2 days a week for about 30 min. each day. I guess this is why my tolerance has not increased much at all. I also only take this in the evening never during the day, primarily for the sleep. Exercise most definitely will play a vital role in battling the addiction. Now mental thats another thing and thats where my battle will begin when I decide to stop.

Good luck with your recovery.

training really helped with all of the physical withdrawals for me...  i mean if i trained for almost 3 hours, i had absolutely NO withdrawal symptoms right after and that would last a few hours..  i thing being more fit and athletic definitely helps BEAT the withdrawals, but it doesnt help the cravings.............

Hi Lost ... I am an athlete as well but I'm concerned that you would take painkillers and work out...why...I broke my knee on motrin while running...you don't feel what your body is telling you.

But during wds, yes, exercise is extremely beneficial...I was in the gym on the 3rd day off and still am...getting ready to go now :-)

Lots of aminos (check that out in the health pages), fluids and several small meals throughout the day.  I found tapering worked better as well...

Hope this helps

any kind of exercising during drug use is really good for you...what it does is makes you sweat out all the chemicals, so they're out of your system quicker thus having less withdrawals...but it is almost impossible to balance a good athletic regemin while doing Oxys....the oxys will eventually get the best of you and break your body down and it will get more and more difficult to keep up with your fitness...this drug will make you lose weight and nutrition so your body will become malnourished....Do yourself a favor and get off of those....they do nothing but mess up your life...keep to the sports and what-not.....u will be much happier in the long run....hope Ive helped a bit....Peace!

i don't know anything about how athleticism may affect wd's, but i do agree the three of you need to get off the stuff.  i also have no experience with oxys, mine was norco, methadone, and xanax, all at the same time.  it was horrendous, but that was cause i quit 3 at once.  if i had known then what i know now, i would have done it differently.  anyway, a dr's help would be beneficial, if you have that option. otherwise, just keep hanging in here till you are ready to do it yourself.  read, and educate yourself so you will be prepared.  know when you can get some time off, get the nutrition and medical aids you need to have on hand and do it right.  you will have much more chance of success that way.
