Basically instead of dropping a few milligrams at a time you slash into your dose heavily (say from 50 to 20 or 30). Take most of your dose morning, and save a 1/4 for night. This should help keep you from suffering too much.
Generally it takes from two to four weeks before all symptoms reside (they tend not to be too bad, but it varies. It's not full withdrawal, though!).
The worst part is that your dose seems to only last for like 12 hours before you start getting edgy and whatnot. Which is why you split it. You'll also feel like hell mornings until you settle down.
You'll know your adjusted to the new dose when you can go to bed time and go to sleep without taking the quarter dose. At that point, take the full dose in the morning. It's not easy, but it's better than just running out.
I have been on methadone for 8 months the oxy for a month. I now know how much fun methadone is comming off, I wish i would of never taken any.........oops
You have been taking methadone for just a month. Get off as fast as you can "Methadone, there's no future in it" all the best
what is a "hard fast drop" on methadone? Thankyou so much everyone I really need this
If you're worried about having enough methadone to taper properly you can do a hard fast drop. That way it isn't withdrawals and you should still be able to function. Then you can back off and do it at a better pace for the amount you're realistically getting.
Oh I so feel for you. This is going to be difficult with your mom having pills in the house. Stick with this forum. We will help all we can.
Keep up with the taper. Do you have enough to taper for a long time? Slow is good with methadone, or so I've heard.
