I have been an opiate abuser for the past two years. at my high point last year i was doing up to 400 mg of oxycodone per day. i did detox and rehab and wasn't doing too bad til i started a new job that gave my access to narcotics approx 4 mo ago. i was clean for approx 2 months prior to that. over the past 4 months i have been taking anywhere from 6 to 18 perc per day. 2 days ago the only thing available was methadone, so i did 10mg in the am and 10mg in the evening. i felt better than i ever did on any other drug. today i did only 10mg and still feel pretty good. no withdrawal at all from not have perc/oxy in two days. my questions is.....did the methadone help me off the perc/oxy? is this it? if I go to nothing tomorrow and possible 5mg the next day (only if I feel poorly) am I off? Is methadone used for this? Or am i high off these 3 doses over the last three days and haven't hit withdrawal yet? I want off so bad but usually the withdrawal and depression always draw me back. I feel great right now, 6pm, and only took 10 mg methadone this am at 7pm. I am not sure what is going on.

yes methadone DOES last that long. More than likely if you dont take anything else tonight or tomorrow you will start to feel the effects of withdrawal. I know from experience that everytime you detox it gets harder and longer. If you have more methadone pills try to taper with them, taking 5 mgs tomorrow and then less the next day and so on. Tammy

it will hang around for a few days..it takes longer than a few days to become addicted to it..i have used 20-30 mgs a day for a week at a time for pain control without becoming addicted to it...people do use it to taper and stop their doc just like sub..both are addicting so beware...i did not get high off of methadone..i did get high off of sub..i was a hydro user..when i took 30 mgs i felt very sleepy and it was not a drug that encouraged me to take alot as i dint get the energy buzz..at the right dose i felt normal tho...all narcotics are dangerous and caution is always best..less is better..good luck with ur goals..aftercare is the key

does methadone last this long? i will have nothing tomorrow so I guess that will be the true test. I don't plan on taking any more of the methadone if i feel ok. i've only have three doses over the last 36 hours so i don't think i am addicted to them yet, although i know it would be really easy for me to fall into them totally which is why i really don't want to take anymore of them. i know when i went to detox it only took 3 days to get me off major doses of oxy, then i felt fine. i was kinda hoping that was what was happening now. i am pretty scared.

i believe the methadone is just keeping you high and that you will have withdrawal symptoms when you stop. i also beleive that it's harder to detox off methadone than percocets. that is how my body works. you may be different. can you cut back to 5mg, then 2.5? you want to get off those before they get ahold of you. do you know what i mean? i am pretty much in the same boat as you. this site is an excellent source of information and support. best of luck! sway
