HELP for my MOM PLEASE

my mom is addicted to oxycotton. She went through terrible withdraws about a week ago and now she has been staying with me while I try to get her to stop taking them little by little. I have never dealt with this before and not sure how to. My plan is to give her pain pills, less and less over the weekend until we can see a Doctor on Monday. I plan to get her on Saboxine on Monday. I have heard that you have to be in withdraw to get on Saboxine, does anyone know about this? Also, she keeps telling me what is the big deal about continuing to take pain pills. It gives her energy and calsm her down. What are the big risks in taking oxycotton over long periods of time? She has told me that she takes 2 30 mg. pills 4 times a day. How severe is this? What can happen if she continues? Is this a high dose? I'm sure these are stupid questions but I just need some answers. She mainly takes percaset, I read this can effect your liver. We went to a doctor and they gave her hydrocodne 7.5 mg (20 pills). She is getting afraid this wont last the weekend. Anyone have any suggestions? I am afraid to tell a doctor so she lied about back pain that is how we got pills. I have low strength valium as well, will mixing these be bad? I just want to know how to get through the weekend and if see how feasible it is to get on Saboxine. She is terrified of going through withdraws. PLEASE HELP

it has been 3 years, she quit twice then started again, but now sh has come to a point were she hates the pills, i mean the other day she was cussing out her prescription, so she definatly has the desire to stop however it is extremely hard for her because she already battles with depression and she has been hurt so much, she is going through a divorce right now with my dad because he molested her daughter and she ahs a ton of problems, chronic back pain makes it very difficult for her to work and she is struggling extremely and she has 5 kids to take care of. so ya it shard for her to quit but she really wants to what should we do
before she quit by weaning off of them over like 2 months and finally just quit a small dose of 2 a day cold turkey but then when she got depressed again she went back to it

thank you all for responding, it finally feels like I am not alone and it helps to hear all of your insight. I keep trying to explain to her that she cant continue to take these pills but she does not seem to understand why not. She says that they give her energy, keeps her calm and helps with anxiety. She tells me when she does not take them she just feels tired and sad. This all started after she had cosmetic surgery and they prescribed the pills. She then had more cosmetic surgeries to get more pills. She ran out once and asked me to help her. I had a friend that sold percaset so I called him and asked for some pills. Stupid mistake. She got his number some how and over the past 6 months instead of seeing a doctor she had been buing them from him. Most people take pain pills because of stress in their life. My mom lives in another world in terms of normal stress. In the last year she got divorced after 15 years (they were partners in their company) the company had to be closed, proceeds divided and locations/showrooms closed. She has always owned her own company and with the housing market over the past year she went through financial problems. Her best friend and spiritual advisor both moved. I moved and got married, leaving her with the divorce, 2 younger children, closing one company and keeping another one a float, she had to move homes, the kids had to switch schools, she turned 50. It has just been a really hard year for her and the pills she says help her get out of bed every day. She tells me that her not being able to function means everything will crash, clients, business, children, finances, employees. I keep trying to reinforce that she has to stop for the bigger picture, that the pills are the effect not the cause and she has to deal with the cause. I really would like any information or stories about what these pills do to people. I really don't know and this would help to support my case against taking them. If anyone has some insight that I can share with her I would really appreciate it. We are down to 4 pills for the day and it is only 1pm. I am seeing a doctor in the am for seboxin, hope that will work. I am scared about mixing ambian with other pills especially after what I heard about Heath Ledger. Does anyone know about what not to take while on ambian? How many of these pills does someone have to take to od? Does it ever stop....will he ever stop. What am I up against. I think I am rambling but I keep this in all day so I don't worry her or my younger brother and sister, this is the only release to get out all my frustration and fear. I sincerely appreciate all of your support, thank you

Hi Jillia,

Sorry to hear about your mom if you have any direct questions about Suboxone please ask. I work at an addiction clinic we use Methadone, Suboxone and Subutex here depending on the patients needs. We have counseling and monitor our patients very close.
From your description it sounds like your Mom is very addicted to pain killers.
You will need to be tough but more importantly get yourself educated so that you
know how to support your Moms addiction and the best way to deal with it. Addiction
can be very difficult to deal with you may of bit off more than you can chew but God love ya for trying after all we only get one Mom.

i agree it is a medium amount. she has an addiction problem like the rest of us. i agree about letting her read the forum. she can taper if you help her. she will suffer but less. i think this is the physicians call if they are good. suboxone may help but she does have to be in withdrawal. the recommended hours of withdrawal vary by physician. it can be a long process between evaluation and initiation period. then the sub has to be regulated. i think this is a decision both of you will have to make. do your homework, keep posting and asking questions. there is plenty of help here. understanding people for her.

Yes, that is a very high amount of Oxy.  Does she have an appointment with a suboxone doctor on Monday?  That would probably be a good Idea.  If she does go cold turkey.....hang on the reins because she will probably get very sick.  I may be very scary for you.  She may feel as if she is going to die, but if she is in fairly decent health she should be ok.  Also, you have to be in moderate withdrawal--some say, anywhere from 12-24 hours.  I hear the longer you wait the better because suboxone will make you ten time sicker if you take it too soon.  Please keep us posted.  Your mom is very lucky to have such a wonderful daughter.  God Bless,

Nauty.............

The big deal about continuing the pills is physical ruin (liver, kidney, cardiac) in particular. Followed or accompanied by financial ruin and usually legal problems. Not to mention what it will do to the rest of the family.

Its a medium habit - people here have kicked stronger doses plain cold turkey. Its hard, no fun, and you will wish to die. Takes somewhere from 4-7 days to kind of get over. The oxy's are time release and stay in your system a tad longer than some others. Check out the Thomas Recipe on this forum (put in search engine) and take it to heart.

Sounds like Mom may be a good candidate for sub (buprenorphine) - but run like the wind if they start speaking of methadone. Good luck to you - -

It is saturday...that is 10 pills a day.....should suffice...is she trying to quit?  Or are you trying to get her to quit.?  admirable if you are but she has to want to quit...key ingedient unfortunately...if she takes 20 pills this weekend they will not start her on suboxone on monday...unlikely.....you do have to be in withdrawals to a certain degree to start that drug ...keep posting

does she have insurance? some insurances will cover suboxone treatment.  i don't have any personal knowledge of any of the meds you are talking about except the hydros.  20 should get her through the weekend, if you dole them out carefully and don't let her get the pills.  as an addict, she will not be able to resist taking too much, then she will have wd's.  it sounds like she doesn't see the need to get off of the meds.  until she wants it herself, it just may not work.  she has to want it or she will just go back on them.  my prayers are with you.
