Help kicking oxys while having to continue to work

I have finally decided that I am going to quit oxy.  I have been taking them daily for about 7 1/2 months.  I never took the meds for pain, purely recreational.  I take 2-3 40s per day, but get by just fine with 1-1.5.  It all depended on how many I had.  This forum really helped me decide that enough is enough and that I need to stop.  I appreciate all of the advise re the w/d, as I have experianced them in times when I could not get my hands on any.

My question is, is there anything I can do to help get me through the first 5-7 days because I have to work.  I am an attorney and taking time off is really not an option.  I might be able to get a day off (say a Friday or Monday), but not much more.  I would like to avoid making this public at my office.  Any help appraciated.

Thanks

Hey Matt,

You've got lots of good advice above.

I would actually take my last dose on a wednesday, then your day one is Thursday, day two is Friday (work both).  That way you have Sat, Sun, Mon (take it off) as days 3,4,5.

My logic is this......day 1 is very tolerable, day 2 ***** but the real crappy days (3,4,5) will be spent at home allowing you to return to work for day 6 which should not be worse than your day 1 or 2.

You won't regret being away from work for the "meat of the order", days 3,4,5.

I'd tell them that you have a touch of food poisoning, also a good excuse for your trips to the bathroom and food poisoning is not considered contagious like the flu.

Very happy for your decision to stop,
The freedom is all yours if you want it bad enough,

bob

Hi!  I think you should take your last dose on like a Thursday morning, and take Friday off.  Maybe you would be able to work on Monday.  You won't feel really good, but you might could be "present" at work!   : )  Don't plan court for that day!!!

You will feel so much better to be rid of the ball n chain of pills!  I have been free for 101 days, and I LOVE IT!

Good luck to you, Matt!

Hope you make it.
do you have enough to do a slow taper off of them?   It may make it easier.

Hey I was where you are 16 days ago, It's great that you made a decision to get your life back. As others have advised try to do it on a Friday and then take Monday off. That will put you at 3-4 days and that is the worst part of it. So what I am saying is stop taking early Friday morning (day 1) as the first day isn't too bad then do it over the weekend. As others have advised get yourself vitamin supps, melatonin, valerian root and immodium. rAlso the is a helpful recipe called The Thomas Recipe (its on the forum page) and try the Amino Acid protocol (for energy). I too had to go to work feeling like crap, I told everyone that I had sinus problems and that sufficed. Hang in there you can and will make it. Keep posting as you go through this ordeal and you will find people here to guide you through it. Hang tough.

congrats for the decision you've made, the best one !!!

i agree with Danny, days 2/3/4 are the worst so those are the days to take off work. Maybe you could start taking the suplemments ( magnessium+calcium) and vitamins ( B's) before actually going c/t?

eat bananas, buy Hylands restful legs and some stuff to sleep like melatonin and valerian root so you can sleep a little bit better, lots of hot baths and drink a lot ( gatorades, tonic water). You could also take some Ltyrosine in the mornings to help you with the lack of energy during the weeks you will be working until you feel better ...just a suggestion..

and of course, Good luck :)

Thanks for the support.  I know I can do this, I have too much to lose if I don't, including my own sanity.  I can't wait to say I am no longer on these damn pills.  And thank you to all of the people posting on this board.  Without the words of inspration from all of you to people you probably do not know, I would not have had teh strength to admit I am addicted and to make teh decision to stop.

I will keep you updated with my progress.

Hey man,  I think the best way to manage your wd's if you can only take a Friday or Monday off would be to make your last day one day before that three day weekend.  That way days 2, 3 and 4 would be the days where you are off work.  Days two three and four are usually the worst as far as the wds go.  Things gradually get worse at first with either day three or day four being the worst and things getting better noticeably each day after that.

As far as having to work through the wd's many of us have done it.  It ***** but it's over fairly soon.  I did it probably at least 6 or 8 times.  It feels like people will notice how you're feeling but you can explain it away just by saying you've got the flu or a cold etc.  It's not like you're gonna be shaking uncontrollably or screaming out loud how badly you want some fricking pills.  You're just not gonna feel good for a while and then you'll feel better.

The fear of the wd's and the idea that we can't quit if we have to work or go anywhere or do anything is part of the addiction.  The fear of the wd's for me was much worse than the actual wd's were.  Of course they weren't much fun either but what are ya gonna do?

Can you taper yourself down? This might be a good choice for you to do. Withdrawls will not be as bad. Good luck to you and so happy to hear that you are ready to get off the Oxy's.
