Help to sleep

Hi,

My son is on day 20 of wd from suboxone.  He is doing "ok" and is determined but has not hardly slept in almost 3 weeks.  I am scared if something doesnt give he may chose another route, which is not an option.  He is in a Drug Court program so is very limited on what he can take OTC.   Please any suggestions would be helpful.  God Bless you al!

Thank you all so much for your advise!  Glad to know the above mentioned have helped others with sleep, will definatly get him some!  I'll tell him about sleeping in the dark as he trys watching tv to fall alseep.  I feel so bad for him and scared but keep believing if he can just get past a few of the wd symptoms he will be able to concentrate more on getting his life back!  His personaility has already returned which is great but also know he is very vunerable right now.  Reading this site has helped me so much, you all are the best and congrats to all on your progress!  (PS, I HATE these drug companies and Dr's that give out these meds like it's candy, something has got to change!)

So can Mountain Dew soda make you blow an alcohol content. Further tests can be done to see exactly the chemical in your body. Usually an extensive blood test. There are a slew of things that can pop up as methamphetamine on a pee test. They know this and will act accordingly.

Hi Dee, Congratulations on your sons 20 days off suboxone!!!  Coming off sub can be quite a feat, and is quite the ride with its ups and downs.

I detoxed off sub a little over 2 months ago coming off 3mgs.  The sleep was the last to return, but I assure you it does.

Out of all the symptoms, it was the last to return. Being an International Flight Attendant, it was one of the hardest aspects of my detox.

The sleep started to return at about 30 days for me, so he may well be almost there!  Heres a few things that helped me get rest, even in small amounts.

1-I continued with the super hot baths right before bed, even after the acute withdrawal process was over.  After relaxing in a scalding tub, I would go immediately to bed.

2-I cut out all caffeine from my diet. I drank only decaf green tea, and lots of sugar free drinks.

3- I took melatonin before getting into the tub.  Melatonin is an herbal supplement and can be found at most drug stores.  Just a note: For melatonin to be most effective, after taking it, be sure to tell your son to make sure the room is dark. Melatonin is produced and activated in our brains at night time, its the drakness that triggers this action. HAve him take the melatonin and sit in the tub in the dark!

4-On really sleepless nights, I added Valerian Root to the melatonin.  This also can be found at most drug stores and is an herbal supplement as well. A word of warning, valerian capsules smell TERRIBLE. Try to not let him smell that when the bottle is open as it would deter the strongest of strong!!!

5-Simple Chamomille tea in addition to the above reccomendations can not be underestimated in its effectiveness!

I know its tough, but remind him: The body is an amazing creation, it will get the sleep when it needs it.  Despite how crummy he feels, his body will know when it needs rest. Hes nearing the home stretch, just keep encouraging, and try to have him not dwell on the lack of sleep albeit as frustrating as it can be!

Again, congrats, and good luck!

And let me say also that in the commercial for Alteril the guy says he does not like to recommend meds that are in cough medicine. Just a selling point. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) is an antihistamine. I hope he gets some sleep.

My heart goes out to you and your son. I have been there. All I wanted to do was to sleep. It seemed like it would never end. And what was sleep with the nightmares. Something I have seen is Alteril. The two primary ingredients in Alteril are L-Tryptophan and Melatonin. L-Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that is present in virtually all plant and animal proteins. When it is absorbed into the body, it is ultimately converted into a neurotransmitter serotonin. Melatonin has been used for years to promote sleep. I have never taken it. But I would if I felt I needed help sleeping. I used Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) when I was going rough. Both are over the counter. Good luck to your son and you too for that matter. Feel free to message me if you have any questions or concerns. I try to help all I can. The people on these forums are great too. GOS bless.
