How long will this last?

I have been off of 300 mg a day morphine for 4 weeks now, the withdrawals were hell, I still feel like crap, no energy, stomach is messed up, cant eat. Dr put me on Lorazepam for anxiety and just started me on Lexapro. Dr said the withdrawals could last for months. I feel weak and everyday life seems really hard for me. Is anyone else going thru this? I need some advise. Please.

Your doing TERRIFIC. Each day will have its UPS and its downs like everyone else. I think our addictive selves are always looking for a way to feel good, so feeling normal feels lousy for awhile...at least that's what I'm telling myself lol. Hang in there...im right behind you. Some minutes of my day are horrendous...and others are ok...nothing is worse than detoxification. So we know we don't want to go back....keep moving ahead my friend :)

Big congrats on 4weeks clean!  That is big.  Yeah...the methadone lethargy can last quite a while.  Just know that day by day, inch by inch, you're getting better.  Keep moving in that positive direction.  Great job!

Above comments were meant for NyNewbie....are we sure mental problems like memory loss don't develop the further we go down the clean road?  I meant 43 days and now half the time I forget half of what I was going to say....hmmm that could just be menopause though :-D

Darn it! I did it again!  For about a week now whenever I post there is ALWAYS something I forgot grrrrrrrrrr.  My doctor prescribed Zofran for my tummy because I literally couldn't hold anything down.  It also helped a lot...still having issues now but at least I can manage a meal as long as it isn't spicy, hot or too salty...that kind of thing.

Everything you are going through is normal for us.  My advice is to ask your doctor for B-12 vitamin shots OR go to Walmart and pick-up the B-12 sublingual.  Make sure you take first thing in the morning.  It really, really helps with the energy.  Usually the shots are prescribed once a month, I get once a week due to other health issues.  The liquid from Walmart just follow as described.  Trust me....you will notice a difference in your energy quite quickly.

Good luck!

"How long did it take you before you were feeling better?"

I was impatient at first, and wanted to be all better "right now." When that didn't happen I decided to do just a little more each day, whether I felt like it or not. Crawling into bed exhausted is much better than floating into bed on meds. Then little by little I noticed I had more energy.

I have more of "me" I would like to have back. But I have given up on worrying about it every day.  I just try to have faith that I am heading in the right direction, and enjoy each day now for the challenges it brings (that I can tackle with a clear head)

So I can't say day X or day Y was the turning point. Its kind of like watching grass grow :)

Hi..Yes you will bounce back.
2 years ago this month I came off of 3 meds at once. I thought I would never be the same. Each month I went through yet another new stage. Because of my drug and drinking in the past the Dr did said it could take a Year or Two for my Brain to balance back!! Well he was right..
During these past 2 years I went from the Detox from he11, to my mom, dad, dog and other family member's passing away all in a 90 day frame and then I ended up in the hospital with 2 blocked heart arteries that I had a stent put in. It all was just two much to handle BUT I did. I had to UP alot of different Support areas in my Life. It was way better then using or drinking..
SO Just hang tight and give this TIME and with TIME you will have to have plenty of PATIENCE..It will all Balance out soon..I sure do wish you the best and make sure you have some outside Support!
Bless

Thank you OxyTired for the encouraging words. This has been the hardest thing I have ever gone thru. I was on the same dose of morphine for over 5 yrs. I didn't abuse it but got so tired of my life revolving around me "meds". My Dr wouldn't wean me off them, She said just stop. So that is what I did and it was hell. I just want to feel better, have energy and be able to do the things I want to do. How long did it take you before you were feeling better?

My drug was oxycodone, but I had similar issues. Every day now will get better for you. Just think how amazing it is that you have four weeks clean!! It takes some time and patience for the brain and body to reset.
I have 14 months clean and still work a daily program. But I sleep better, and many other things have improved.
Just hang in there! Don't go back!
