My meds

Hi my name is Mandy and i have been on Morphine for around 4/5 yrs and the drs have spoke about taken me off it and re-looking at my meds but also to check for another illness basically start a fresh. I have Fms and suffer very badly with the pain so i eat the tablets like sweets which i know isnt good. They say i will have to go cold turkey as i have a addition to morphene after being on it for so long. I am very worried as i dont know life without it and before i went on it i couldnt get off the bed so it as made a big diffence to my life. Any one got advice or going though the same as me with morphine as im told cold turkey is horrible.
Thanks for reading
Mandy

i would get a 2nd opinion especially since it got out of bed and up moving around there by Improving your quality of life, that alone besides the fact that your have chronic disabling pain should be enough for any DOC to keep you on morphine, im in the same boat as i have been on morphine for 5 years now  without it im bed ridden, i dont like taking pills and hate the fact that im addicted to morphine, but ive never abused it, if anything i whind up with extra pills come refill time, But yeah If MY Doc told me I Had to quit and cold turkey at that I'd GET A NEW DOC, it sounds like he's been handing out skrip,s and is under investigation, that happend to my last DOC. sounds like it's time to Find a new more understanding DOC with a little more SYMPATHY..

I have been on 90 mg of Morphine a day for the last 4-5 yrs.  When I moved to Michigan they didn't want to prescribe it anymore so the Doc said to wean myself.  I dropped a pill a month until I was down to one a day (15mg).  I have taken one a day for the last several months.

2 days ago I quit taking it at all.  I really thought since I had weaned myself to only one there would be very little symptoms I would go through but I was very wrong.  I have flu like symptoms, I get chills my nose is running, my tummy cramps, I am anxious, and go thru cycles of big time anxiety. I am having heart palpatations.   I am eating a little chocolate to help my brain chemistry. Endorphins -- need endorphins- lol

I hope this helps.  Btw any doc who does not detox you like I wrote above is not good-- get another opinion.   You have to gradually reduce your amount if you have been on it for any amount of time.  Good luck J

Im on slow release Morphine 40mg ago around 4 times aday due to pain. The dr is worried about me keep losing my voice and says i need to come off the morphine and go back to the beginning when i first got ill. Before the Morphine i was put on all sorts of meds and nothing worked until i was put on Morphine and then i was able to return to work which as been hard but i do my best. What is ur daily dose of morphine...mg for mg if taken orally/morphine is really not much/if any stronger than oxy or hydro....alot depends on how much u take and how bad u want to stop...this forum is great..lots of support so keep posting

Wow a doctor telling you to come off morphine cold turkey.  Did they find pot or something else in your system that made him upset?  There is something real wrong with a doctor making you come off morphine cold turkey.  Talk to him about a taper and let us know what he says
Good Luck!!!

mandy,

what type of morphin are you taking? time release? why would they want you to stop cold turkey? I am tapering off time release kadian right now and they have me on a very closely monitored taper schedule. No doc should make you do cold turkey? did you ask them for a taper?
