Just a little info about our pharmacies

by Missy31, Jun 22, 2008 10:33AM
I get my Suboxone RX filled at Rite Aide pharmacy and I am down to a pill and I called the Phamacist to see how I could do this taper thing to make it last (see if I was doing this the right way) and he talked to me and has agreed to fill my rx for 3 until Wensday when I can get my RX filled because I get paid. How nice one person commented and told me that he had the same from his pharmacy and I really didn't expect that but he was right, so for anyone who gets in the same situation call your pharmacy and talk to them they may just help you out aswell! He said he will let me pay for them Wensday, he said people usually start feeling WD by day 3 for sure, but as most of you know me it took about 10-14 days for me to start feeling really bad. I guess it effects everyone differently, he also suggested that 16mgs daily was a very high dose and that I should start to taper myself down, Coolio (member) said less is more with Sub. does anyone have any thoughts on this should I go by the pharmacist or the dr. who wants me on it for 6 months before I start to taper off? Thanks guys

Yeah I agree with all said above, I was taking Vicodin and Percocet all together off and on for about 2 years. The pharmacist said that my dr. tends to RX it to people to m uch too long. So I'm concerned but he told me to taper every 3 days by 1/4 and in about 10-12 days I should be off. He said that towards the end I may feel a little bad but I really need tget off this so I'm gonna do it. I am just in a way so dissapointed because I really thought this was really going to be so very helpful and in the longrun its just as bad as the others. Some times you justcan't win for loosen!

Hi, you may want to check around to different pharmacies for pricing. I know Rite Aid is typically a bit high. One time at CVS, the pharmacy manager agreed to meet and beat the best price I could find on Suboxone (with the exception of Costco nobody beats them). I thought that was a great way to keep a customer. When I was on it I had to pay out of pocket and a 30 day supply was about $500. Costco was much cheaper but it did have to be ordered in.
So I would check around if your insurance isn't covering it, you may be able to save a few dolllars. I sell health insurance and one of the things I have to know is retail drug pricing for clients who take a med the insurance doesn't cover. You may be surprised at the difference in cost at various pharmacies. And Suboxone is one of those drugs you don't have to fill the entire RX, you can fill part of it like you did and go back for the rest when you have the $$.
Good Luck

I forgot to mention, my psychiatrist said it takes minimum 30 days to get off 8 mg of Suboxone, that's the fasted you can comfortably do it. However, I was able to get off a bit faster. I would go with the doctors info vs. the pharmacist.
I know many people on the forum hate Suboxone but it saved my life. I started on 32mg a day. I was also taking 40-45 7.5mg hydrocodone a day too. Not too many people have that bad of a habit.
It is a bit rough coming off but once your off, your life it handed back to you. It's yours again, so stay focused on the big picture. You'll get there in time!!

The doctor probably wants you on it for awhile to keep you from relapsing. It's not a quick fix drug, it wan't meant to be. My total treatment was about 9 months but I don't count that as my sober time because AA won't let me. I don't care so much about time, I know when I took that last Vicodin. I'm glad they went slow with me because personally I would have relapsed, I had to get a lot of things in my life under control while I was on Sub. I had to attend AA meeting daily, and counseling 3 times a week, and clean up the issues in my life that made me use. My doc was strict but very well renown in this area for his success with drug treatment.
Again, best of luck!!
I'm done posting, I promise-LOL!!

Not familiar personally with sub....but i do know that most pharmacists know more about drugs than doctors do...most...i want to reiterate that as some doctors go to lengths to learn about the meds they prescribe...some/most do not...a pharmacist is trained specifically on medications
