Sleeping through opiate withdrawal

So here's the layout: I have been taking Norco's (10mg) for about four years off and on. i take about  8 at a time twice a day. What is there to help with the sleep after quitting? i tried going high and dry doing detox by myself but it had been six days and no sleep! i couldn't do it any more.Six days of taking benadryl, Nyquil, Ambien, Lunesta, Xanax, Lorazepam, trazodone, somas, flexril, or anything i could rummage up in the kitchen cabinets to help me sleep was enough!! It wasn't working so i had to continue use again to function and go to work. Is there any other options to detox or sleep besides methadone? Even trazodone didn't work, nor Xanax. Sometimes i think i'm the only one that nothing will work for! Sleep is so priceless now and i can't get it without useing.Hot showers help with the aches and anxiety for about a half hour but then it all just kicks in again. The Xanax made me pass out for abnout twenty min at the most but same thing. What else can i do cause i wanna be DONE with this ****. Thanks for the words.

I agree keeping active is important.  However, when every muscle and bone hurts is is almost impossible to do it.  I know I am a very active person, but literally breathing and getting up to go to the bathroom required every bit of energy I had. Yes, I tried very hard to keep moving and it is important, but sometimes you just can only do so much.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned exercise.   One way to def get sleep (at least in my case) was to physically exhaust myself.

I guarantee that if I plopped you down on a working dairy farm, and you had to put in 12 hours of hard labor, you'd sleep.  The body cannot go months and months without sleep; you'd die.  What happens is that you get little snippets of sleep that, while conscious, you aren't even aware of.

I know this is an old post....but for me, getting on my hands and knees and washing every surface of floor space in my house would EXHAUST me and I'd get some shut-eye.  Just my 2 cents...

It isn't easy but mentally and physically prepare yourself for a little less sleep for awhile.  Even though I am not a nap person, I found myself forcing myself to go lay down no matter what time of the day it was and force my body to rest or eventually doze off no matter what time of the day, even if it was an hour.  Hot Epson salt baths before bed helped to relax my muscles and me,

Make sure to take vitamins, I took a multi, Calcium, Vitamin D-B12 , zinc -etc.
I also drank protein drinks, and sports drinks that added electrolytes.

I know these are not going to solve the problem, but it may help get you thorough it

I'm also sorry you started again after 6 days. You were so close to breaking out of the physical WD's. Bottom line is there is no magic cure. Be careful with all those Benzo's. I went through opiate WD's and at a later date went through Benzo WD's. I will tell you what I Benzo detox was a lot worse than the opiate WD and I was taking 500 - 700 mg of oxy's a day for a long, long time. I actually thought I was inches from death on the Benzo WD. Valium, Xanax, as well as several others are all Benzo's to different degrees. The benzo WD was from taking 4 mg Xanax a day. I'm sorry that you just have to pay the piper as far as getting our bodies back to normal. I'm really bummed that you went back after 6 days. Day 7 was my first day of noticing a difference. One of the posts recommended Suboxone. Suboxone saved my life but you need to make sure you are educated before starting something like suboxone. I'm pretty sure most people would choose Suboxone over Methadone but than again many would say stay off both. 6 days......... Crap!

Hey bud, this is a crappy situation I know. But it seems to me that the best way out of it is by using Suboxine. Idk if you've tried to use the subs yet but they've worked great for me.

The not sleeping was one of the worst symptoms coming off years of Hydro to me. OMG, I didn't sleep good for months. I did use Ambien for 6 months after withdrawals to get me back on a sleeping pattern but I still don't sleep really well guess it's age. I used Xanax to ease some of the leg pains and aches but only for a month at most. It is just something we all have to go through to get clean.

Hey L....isn't valium part of the recovery similiar to xanax, etc?  I'm not an expert on this and haven't taken any other meds...but  thought many recovering were doing that...I sleep about 4-6 good hours and the 2-4 rough...meaning, I miss my rem :-(...

what's up with the group u went too? Never been there but it seems harsh that they would tell u to come back when you're clean...i thought it was open to anyone at any stage...

Peace,

Nick

I've been taking 10mg. valiums with a hot bath.  It sooo helps!  From what Ive read on here valium is not as addicting as xanax & ambian.  So I also take a 1/2 when I start the crying/anxiety ****.  HAVE YOU TAPERED DOWN TO 2/4 YET?  That helped me at the end this time & I've been trying to quit off & on for years only lasting 3 weeks.
* My med of choice was Vic/Lorab 10 & fiorinal mix - Norco's very much the same. :)

I'm so sorry you went back after 6 days.  The sleep problem can be the worst. Everyone is so different.  You were probably so close.  I also tried everything. I found the Melatonin and Valerian Root to help a little, but you pretty much have to wait it out. It will come eventually. It sounds as if you have tried everything, but maybe others will have some ideas. Please try again, just be a little more patient.  Best wishes.   Mary
