I will be three years clean in June without getting addicted again despite having used opiates . I really appreciate the help but please don't be concerned. I only got enough for 21 days since its only short term, so I've flushed the others.

This makes no sense to me. i don't mean to offend you. but how do you justify using any substance every three days?? i don't think you understand the power of pills. they are like legal hits of drugs. a opiate is a opiate weather it is legal or not ... this doesn't make logical sense. i don't mean to be harsh on you. but i am worried for you.

I'm with leann on this one - it's a slippery slope and you'd be better off finding another way to deal with the pain. Tramadol is the worst to detox from.. just the worst.  And like leeann said, you're going to end up wanting to take it every day.  As an addict, we need to be watchful of ending up cross-addicted to another substance thinking it's no big deal because it's not our DOC.  But I'm pretty sure our brains don't really know the difference, addictive behavior is addictive behavior.

And I ran out of the tramadol early all the time and each and every time I was forced to stop because I ran out I was in physical withdrawal within the next day or so.

Please don't do it!  (just my opinion) - good luck to you.  :)

I don't know absolutely but Im pretty sure you wouldn't become physically addicted on that schedule, based on what I know.

for a few months i took herion every 3 days after coming off it and was able to keep it to that so i'm not worried about that. Thanks for your help and to everyone else. Does anyone know if physical addiction will develop if i take three days off for every day i take it?

I wouldn't do it!  Even every three days will end up getting you.  You might be able to do that for a while, but won't be long before  you take it on the second day.  And then every day.  It's a very hard drug to stop.  I'd rather stop a straight opiate any day over tramadol!  I've done both.  Tramadol is a killer to stop!

I know it's a worry for people who have worked so hard for their sobriety to feel comfortable taking pain medications.  But sometimes it is really necessary.  As long as you can keep your guard up and continue to be aware of it, you should be okay.  But if you are going to be in pain the other days, you may need the medication.  If they gave you a long-acting med, your doctor must feel like that's the best way to treat your condition.  Pain can inhibit the healing process.  Using non-opioid medication is smart but I hope it's enough.  I'm just thinking that they give you the extended release for a reason.

I am really just worried about the physical addiction, I read on heroinhelper.com that for heroin if you take herion for 8 hours and then take 64 hours off you will not get addicted was wondering would this apply to tramadol

yes I've read alot, I will be in pain the other two days but I'll stick to over the counter non opiods for those two days so its bearable, I'm not worried about about the addiction side have had plenty of laspses but have always stopped it before physical addiction returns and have taken tramadol before. Thanks for your help

Will you be in pain the other two days? That's a bad way to live...

It's very likely the Tramadol will "awaken the beast" but if the benefit outweighs that possibility...you'll just have to decide.

Have you read much about Tramadol?
