Need help getting of percoset

Hello All-

My name is Chris and I have been on 60mg of percoset a day for about 5 years dr perscribed.  But, I am now addictied and want to to know what is the fastest taper plan possile to get off this.  My parents are gone for a week right now so I want to take this time to deal with the withdrawals.

Anyways, A little about me I am 37 years old and was married for 5 years until my ex wife cheated on me.  Then my mom got early onset altimerz so I came to live with my parents to help my dad take care of her.  My dad is an alcoholic and verbal abusive towards me, which gives me mixed feelings to move out.

My dad doesn't give me money and I barely make it buy.  I tried to get a job a few times but my dad always takes off and leaves me with my mother.  And I can't leave her.  I am very close to my mother and this disease has robbed me from her.

Also, I have a sister but she never comes to visit, even that she is only a hour a way.  She just seems its best for her to stay away and avoid it.

Anyway, that is just half the story, I've lost a lot of friends in the last 5 years too.

Thanks for the help.  I am very scared to go cold turkey, but I am going to try.   I know what you mean 1 isn't enough so tapering is useless.  I plan to start cold turkey tommorrow.  My parents come home next Thursday night.  So I got still one week.  I am just wondering if I will be able to pick up my parents after a week of cold turkey and I am not sure what to say to my dad since he is abusive.

Hey!  you hit some heart strings with the alzhiemers, we took care of a family member with it and i know how totally consuming it can be, sorry to hear your going thru that.  I've got some advice on that too but more pressing .......

COngrats on taking the step of admitting the issue and finding this site.  this site saved me, and i am now 71 days clean and very happy about it.  Detoxing is totally doable as long as you have some tools to help you.  in my opinion the most important tool is your head.  lol ya sounds funny right?  but seriously, if your head is in the right place you can make withdraw better.  sitting around thinking about it is the worst thing you can do, you've got to really decide your done with the pills and then DO IT.  getting up and moving while your going thru it is a must.  you need to get ur blood pumping to release endorphines to help ease the symptoms.  since you only have a week your best bet is to go cold turkey.  The worst of the withdraw symptoms should be over in a couple days.  you need to check out the thomas reciepe's herbal's to help its in the health pages, upper right of the screen.  those herbs help a lot of people.  also posting on this site became my lifeline so keep your 'puter on 24/7! lol.  everyone here is great and supportive and really cares so dont underestimate posting.  so my advice to you is just quit.  i tried taking a pill after day one and let me tell you it so made it worse.  my tolerance was so high and that one pill just made the want for more SOOOOOOOOO much worse.  and tapering for me wasnt an option because hey i'm an addict, if the pills were there i was so taking them!  also i think tapering just prolongs the w'd symptoms so might as well plow thru a couple crappy days and get it out of the way.  after the physical stuff its the mental part ie why i said your head is your most important tool.  so good luck to you and keep posting!

hi and welcome to MH. life can be filled with all kinds of problems. addiction just adds to the mix instead of making it better. addiction is a very lonely place. it is a train only leading headlong for more destruction, sadness and death. glad you have admitted to yourself about the addiction that is the first important step. if you have a week cold turkey is the way to go. a taper plan if longer, less severe but prolongs the withdrawal symptoms.
did you take any pills this morning? there are some things you can do to make the detox more comfortable
we are here to encourage you along the way,
keep the faith
