I realized I've become completely stupid. I can't pay attention anymore, or concentrate, think of ideas, nothing. It's just, blank. I've been abusing cough syrup since I was fifteen years old, well these past three months I have literally drank one to two bottles of cough syrup every day. Of course I'm an idiot, I know I need help... Maybe? I decided last night I'm completely bored with the high, and I want to kick up a hobby, and I'm tired of feeling sick and tired. I'm done. Day one.

Dextromethorphan is the active ingredient. At high doses it produces a dissociative effect - tripping basically. It was around when I was younger, but it always seemed like a chore to chug a bottle of cough syrup when you could do acid or 'shrooms just as easily.

Richelle, I have very little experience with DXM, but from what I do know, addiction to it has major health risks and recovery is very difficult to do on your own. Do you have any access to a clinic, doctor, or therapist? Have you thought about getting professional help with this? That is what I would urge you to do...

Congrats on getting clean.

What kind of syrup are we talking?  Over the counter?  Codeine syrup?  Hydro?

They can have different effects.....just curious.

Way to go Richelle,
Day 2 is awesome and sleeping is okay too.  Sleep when you can.
Make sure you are drinking lots of fluids though.  Also try and eat.
It will help with your energy after.  Take a good B vitamin and any others that you can get.
Glad you updated and keep letting us know how you are doing.

Hi there
I don't know what type of withdrawal you will have from coming off the cough syrup but I imagine you will feel like you have the flu for a couple of days.  Make sure you are drinking lots of fluids and let us know your symptoms so we can offer you advice on something to help you through it.

welcome!  congrats on the first step saying you're done!!  i'm assuming the couch syrup has codeine or another narcotic in it???  been there done that.....just keep posting and if you have any questions we are all here for you!!  this is an AWESOME place to be for help!!  i'm on day 4 of detox from pain killers.....read the posts and ask all the questions you can!!  we are here for you!!
