OXY Question........

I spoke w/my ex-dealer earlier this week.  I've only spoken w/her a few times since my detox in January.

I was hooked on hydros.  Although I had an enormous supply, of course, always needed more.  She had 3 back surgeries and never took them much, but kept the supply up for me and for her husband.  Her supply for me became more and more unavailable as her husband's habit increased.  He too has his supply for his ailments, the internet and doctor shopping.  Of course, he always needed more too.

Anyway, she called to wish me HB.  She respects my sobriety and has told me how she knew that her husband could never ever do what I did.  He was up to about 20 lortabs daily.  One of his doctors has now recently prescribed him 2 oxy 40 mg daily.  She is worried that he'll soon be chewing them up too as he takes them along with all the other lortabs he has.

I've never taken oxy and couldn't give her info, but told her I'd write my dear friends here.

Has anyone chewed them?  They're time-released aren't they?  I chewed my lortabs and actually taught him to do that.  Is Oxy chewing much more dangerous?  How long will it take for him to search for more, if he already hasn't?  His hydro habit is about 6 years old.  She also asked the dangers of mixing oxy w/hydro.  I couldn't answer any of this.  I never took oxy.....thank goodness, b/c I know I would have LOVED them.

Any answers?

no dangers mixing them as very similar...oxys are said to be stronger...but it is what floats ur boat...a hydro user may not like oxy and vice versa

chewing , snorting and shooting are more difficult to quit due to the sudden rush with shooting being highest on the list...the rush causes more dopamine receptors to form due to overlaod on the brain/even big doses orally will cause this...those receptors never go away and form in the body's defense against the onslaught of dopamine being released with sudden high doses...so wd is more intense and depression is more severe..the receptors never go away...and they want to be fed and depression/craving results...they will shut down with time but do not go away......hence...the next time u use they wake up and very soon tolerence is right back where it was at before as those receptors are still there ......chronic depression can result and never being able to feed all those receptors even while using is a major ordeal...so u chase a high that was good when u had the normal amount of receptors...most of us have way too many and will never feel satisfied......quitting and letting those receptors lay dormant is a key to getting clean ...but if we use...they will wake up and be hungry for more..sad but very true

I don't know about the statement that they will never go away, but we do change our brain's physiology.  It is my belief that "they" do go away but it does take time.  Sometimes for people like us we have no choice but to do buprenorphine, (suboxone/subutex).  We stay dependent on that drug for a while and get our lives straightened out.

those receptors we build to ahndle overlload do not EVER go away...they may inactivate if not needed but will remain..they dont disappear becaue we quit...they r there for life..suboxone is a stronger narcotic than hydros and oxy and the receptors will not shut down during sub use...the depression that follows is due to all of the hungry recptors...."feed me"...and the sub continues to feed them...therefore depression leaving sub after longterm can be severe

u snort 5 oxys 4 x a day,,,this is a major rush to the brain and endorphins are swamped into the brain...not enuf receptors so the brain accomodates and build more..and more   and more...then u cut this supply off and they are freakin...these extra receptors....ouch...where is my dopamine u give me each day?  sorry   I quit,,,,depression insues an eventually after 3 months of clean time they become dormant,,,but they do not go away...next time u use a vast amount...they wake up and "feed"   and hence within days tolerence is back to the max due to those extra receptors waking up...they r hungry again....if u ever quit for 6 months... a 5 mg pill will never get u high again/not for long...those receptors  u built during surg use are there..waiting,,,and u will be right back to ur old dose with no high...the body is a very intricte system and will adjust to what u infringe upon it....the receptors u build for extra storage during splurge us/shootng, snorting, chewing, swallowing  5 pills at a time...they never go away,,,they hang out and wait for u to feed thm again....and ur tolerence is right back there as u have all thse extra receptors to feed with every buzz....they are simply on side by...waiting to help if u overload the receptors again..sitting up there waiting for u to abuse and make them perk up and compete for dopapmine....those receptors do not go away   ever

This is why in a taper u r advised to use small amounts over the day to avoid the surge that builds these new receptors that can cause craving and depression later on

Oxy is given as a long acting pain killer and if it's broken or chewed then it does in fact release the time release so that he basically gets the equivalent of (4) Lortabs 10/325.
There are alot of different opiates that are given for breakthrough pain so here's a list of a few. Lortab, Vicoden, Percsets, and Opana IR.
Basically what the bottom line is with the Oxy is that it won't do harm to him to chew them other than he will get that warm fuzzy feeling alot faster. I would just tell your friend to make sure the hubby understands that if he only takes (2) Oxy's in a day then he's automatically increased his opiate intake by 80 mgs for the day. Also Oxy's are a whole different game in the world of opiates as they're highly addictive and the w/d's are said to be worse than that of any other opiate, except perhaps morphine.
My DOC is Oxy and I know the H$LL it takes to get off of them!!
GL to your friend!!

Worried- you explain that so well. THanks for sharing that understanding of the receptors. it makes total sense to me (and it also ***** that we can never get rid of "them")

No offense, Enemy, but I have to say I got a chuckle out of this.  Your ex-dealer doesn't know the effects of chewing oxy??  No disrespect, but I just find that funny.

Luv,

Here is the chemical breakdown of all of this stuff, the active ingredient in Percocets is oxycodone and tylenol, all oxycotin is, is a time released version of the oxycodone without the tylenol.  If you break the oxycotin up, chew it, snort it or what ever, you are eliminating the time released mechanism and getting a high dose of oxycodone in your system, therefore the high.
In regards to vicodin, loratabs, etc..  Those are hydrocodone which is chemically similar to oxycodone but regarded as not as strong and therefore a class III narcotic.
Hope this helps

No Nauty,

She never took oxy.  She barely took lortabs.  Her DOC is diet pills.

She only kept up her supply to make a fortune off of me, and to have extra for the husband.

She now gives him her entire script of 120 a month, plus he has his own, uses the internet, doctor shops, etc.  One of the doctors switched him from lortab to 2 oxy's a day.  She knows nothing about oxy.  She knows I visit this forum and have given her much insight on addiction w/pain killers.  So she thought I might know more than she does about oxy, however I never took those.  I would have, but never knew anyone that had them.

Does this make you chuckle more?  Or am I missing something?
