Anti-depressant question ?

Here's the scoop.....I have legit reasons to be depressed. I really don't think it has anything to do with detox. (my businees is going under, I could lose my house, nothing good in my life right now) I have always been one of those people that thought the doctors were giving out anti-depressants to quickly.(kinda like the pain pill) lol   I do know some people that are depressed for no reason and I think they should get the A/D.    I guess my question is..... should I take A/D even though they are not going to change my situation (economy). I wish a little pill could solve everything.   I am feeling very hopeless and ready to try anything.

The weird thing is I didn't cry during withdrawl or feel depressed. I was very focused.  Now reality is hitting me very hard.

I was on prozac for many many years. It worked very well for my depression. but this year, it started giving me intolerable side effects and i had to stop taking it. I stopped CT too. Im surviving so far. Ive had some pretty serious bouts of depression again since being off it, but Ive also been able to function (when not going through opiate WD anyways ) and do have some good times still. Ive decided to hold off on trying another one and see if I can maintain myself without them.  But certainly, give them a try and see if they help you. For some people the are real life savers. Best of luck to you.

Hi Mary...

I Ma so sorry to hear about your situation. God love you for getting clean through all of this. That says a lot!!!!

I agree that if you need them, try them. I took Lexapro but it did not agree with me, but that was just me.

I always say that we are not martyrs. There is going to be times in our lives when we need medication for whatever reason/s.

Talk it over with your doctor hun.

Take care and let us know how you are doing with them.

I know what ya mean.  I think they are way over prescribed and something I normally wouldn't mess with. They really helped my mother, but she was one of those depressed for no real reason.  I'm gonna try them though. I am pretty desperate right now. Thank you so much for listening and responding. Big Hug    Mary

I have taken a/d's and I feel like they are overly prescribed, but honestly if you are willing to do therapy and take them for a short time, to get you over "the hump" they can be very useful.

I had a very bad case of postpartum psychosis after I had my son back in 1998 ,They did not know a whole lot about it back then . They ended up misdiagnosing me and presiding to put me on some very heavy duty psychiatric medicines . I left a very bad taste in my mouth for psychiatric drugs.
However that being said I think for many people they are life savers and most certainly should be used . However it would take a heck of a lot to get me back on one

im 43 and male, always beeen upbeat and healthy, after my back injury and pain med use for 3.5 years, ive been clean now for over 7 months and brutally depressed most of that time.im trying anti depressants now because when all is said and done, i want to live.

my understanding is that depression is very real can be very harmful, and can be aggrivated by withdrawls and or  long term pain, (which i was in for 5 years)

try everything, healthy diet, excersise vitamins amino etc etc, i did for several months b4 trying the pharmacutical option.but i didnt get well :(

ive tried 2 different anti ds so far, cymbalta (make me feel like i was on a lot of speed) and effexor (made me feel like i did l.s.d. last night all day every day)

im back to the pyschiastrist tomorrow and see if i can try somethig else.

depression hurts,

good luck on your journey

hey hun,
regardless of how i feel about anti depressants ,i think ,if you think it will help you then you should give it a try ...  If they don't help or you don't like the way they make you feel you can taper off them :)
You deserve to be happy hun.
