Paxil withdrawal symptoms without stopping medication

Paxil withdrawal symptoms without stopping medication

I've been on Paxil for approximately seven years, starting at 60mg and tapering down to 30mg as of two years ago. I'm still on that dose. I've experienced the withdrawal symptoms before, when I've forgotten to take my medicine, as well as when I've been in the process of decreasing my dose, but lately, I've been feeling the withdrawal symptoms when I have been taking my medicine regularly. I've been noticing this more and more, that in the evenings, I will start to feel like I haven't taken my medicine, when I know I have. It feels like the Paxil withdrawal symptoms, and I've never had those symptoms from anything else. Is there a reason that this could be happening? Am I perhaps metabolizing the medicine faster or something?

You might want to discuss this with a pharmacist. They would have the best answer...plus they love answering this type question.

Oh my gosh - i took Paxil a few years ago for just a few months - it was the worst medication I have ever taken and the withdrawal was horrible.  I agree with Ga Guy - you should definitely talk to the pharmacist or even your doctor about this.  If you have been taking Paxil for 7 years, then it obviously is doing some good for you as well.  Suddenly stopping would probably not be good.  Just curious, what kind of symptoms are you having?  I had extremely strange dreams that were difficult to tell between reality and dream state?  I also had severe tremors.  I wish you the best, definitely speak to a professional about this.

salsinator, the symptoms I have are crazy dreams like you described, a difficult time waking up, shakiness, that kind of flu-like feeling of disorientation, sleepiness, etc. I think mostly these are pretty common withdrawal symptoms for Paxil, and mine are pretty mild, like I don't have severe tremors or anything.

Also, thanks guys, I didn't really know you could ask pharmacists this kind of question! I guess I'll ask next time I'm near a pharmacy.

Paxil and most AD's are long acting and feeling wd symptoms after 12 or even 24 hrs is exrtremely unlikely...altho the drug should be tapered if stopping completely, many do not and never feel any wds per sey....
this is really sumpin u need to talk to ur dr about because it could be another issue that needs to be addressed

While I was coming off Paxil - which I did on my own without a doctor's recommendation - the symptoms lasted for about two weeks or longer.  I did a lot of research on Paxil during this time and found some bad reviews on side effects and even law suits against the maker.  I don't know about symptoms after only half a day, but I do agree that you should talk to your doctor.  I spoke with my doctor about Paxil - a different one than the one who prescribed it - and he said he would never prescribe it - there are many other better options on the market today.
