Thanks to all who posted on my tapering thread

I know it kinda stirred things up a bit and I am truely sorry if I personally offended anyone, but I do appreciate all of your comments and input....it was turely benificial to everyone.

So the other reason for this post is to thank the few individuals who came forward and private messaged me about their experience on medhelp and their taper as well..I am pleased you saw my post and responed ...I was soo excited and glad to hear from you...I was literally like a kid in a candy store

I also want to encourage more of you to do so...I know you are there so please, please, please post or private message me...we can share experiences..encourage eachoter....be there for one another because we all need support during this time....and I am sure just like myself most of you are doing it all alone or with individuals who don't understand or don't feel they will support you....believe me this site is all I have and that is why I need more of you to be on here for me and the rest who are in my shoes.

For some time I wasn't posting...... I was feeling down because I failed at CT and was ashamed to come back on.....I only posted updates from time to time to let the individuals who were checking on me know how I was doing...I thank you all for that

So once again please post you are not alone..there are individuals tapering off different mes and we can all be helpful to one another.

But if you don't feel comfortable yet posting please at least private message me I would love to speak with you about experience, progress, feelings...or just to chat

I have decided to post often....hopefully everyday (sorry to those that are annoyed with me) hoping to encourage others to post and share so please look for me or private message me. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi everyone -

Please understand that it isn't that we "won't" budge, but that we can't budge on the tapering issue. We can't possibly know what tapering schedule works best for everyone, and can only go on what a person says in a post.  We don't know if someone has an underlying medical condition that might be made worse by tapering. They may not even know yet.

You can say to taper slowly, suggest symptom management, and things along those lines, but we can not allow specific dosing information.

We also understand totally that CT has it's risks, as well.  However, that doesn't involve someone possibly giving the incorrect dose or schedule for tapering, or another prescription medication and doing real harm to someone, even with the best of intentions and doing it unknowingly.

Please be careful when getting any kind of medical advice from others. Do your research, and if at all possible, talk to your doctor.  We realize that isn't always feasible, but tapering under a doctor's care is the ideal way to do it.

If you have a personal issue with another member, please take it to private message or off-site.  It isn't fair for the other members, and detracts from the awesome support everyone provides, to fight it out in the forums.

We hope everyone who needs support and info will post on the forum.  PMs are a great way to connect with specific people and get to know someone better, but the forums really offer a chance for support and info from a much larger number of people.

This thread is now closed.

Have a great weekend,

Emily

Vikki595 I will pass on the advice to consult a moderator as to why they feel they cant post....I have suggested thep post their story but have said no not ready or just not yet......

It wouldn't be fair of me to give their names for if they wanted to they would have posted on this thread and not by message

All is not lost at least they feel confident enought to confide in me for now and maybe they will come aroud.....like I said we can use all the help we can get

Everyone is entitled to their opinions and no one has a right to tell anyone where they can or can not post.  It's an open forum and it's supposed to be a place to share experiences in how someone found their way out of addiction, in whatever manner they choose.

Okay. Have these people posted on the forum?  What happened? How many are there?

Let me say that MOST people feel very intimidated when new to the forum. The whole business of addiction and detox and all that goes with it is an enormous burden and stressor.

Not everyone here has a lot of clean time and success. Most members are still in the process of detox and recovery. Everyone wants the same thing here: support and acceptance.

I would urge you to tell the folks who are sending you private messages to post their story on the forum. If they are tapering, I know I will post to them as I generally try to speak to anyone who is trying to taper.

As I said, it's not unusual for folks to be timid when arriving here and it's nothing new to the forum. It may be new to you because you've been a member for such a short time but it happens and eventually folks feel more comfortable and will post.

I agree that the whole forum definitely leans toward cold turkey detox by majority but I have not seen anyone made to feel badly due to their choices. Maybe they never expressed this... I DO see where an individual who is tapering may feel out of place because there just aren't many discussions about tapering here and I agree that it's unfortunate. We're just so restricted and, believe me, I've had many a "discussion" about this with some of the MH Moderators. They won't budge.

For the record, I am a HUGE proponent of tapering, know how to do it, and have done it successfully. It's not for everyone but it's a good option.

Lastly, if someone feels disrespected, they need to let a moderator know they've been hurt. The forum should never be unsafe in that sense and all should feel welcome here. At the same time, the moderators would be the folks you need to bring these concerns to and maybe that would effect a change in what we can talk about.

i agree with you, the forums should be more balanced when it comes to who is doing what when it comes to getting off the pills. unfortunately, when we sign up, the forums state to us that nobody here is a physician [unless you go to the physician boards here on the forums] and they inform us that telling people what a "good" or "what works for me" taper schedule is not permissable in any way. so it does stink that those who are tapering are unable to share certain things, but when it comes to support - there's not a lack of that on the forums at all.

i honestly wish you knew what you were talking about when you said that some members here on the forums felt as though they were disrespected when it came to their choice of getting off the pills, aka tapering. because i have yet to see that. maybe it was long before i joined this forum a couple of weeks ago, who knows. but in the meantime, i cill continue to support anyone's decision - whether it was the same choice i made or not.

Thank you vikki....I. understand what you are saying....but the fact is almost all the threads on here are about CT and sobriety and for someone it may feel intimidating to jump into a conversation where they feel they don't belong...I know that is how I felt when I failed at CT and again I am stating it wasn't by fault of any member or post but my own feeling of failure...I felt out of place...everyone had a success story and here I was going back to pills because the jump wasn't for me

I just wanted to open a new door for those that are out there to feel free to post on what they know with individuals that are doing the same....and it doesn't  have to be about taperin g because I know their are strict guidelines on what can be said...but just the fact of commonality and adjusting ...getting by and being okay with tapering those are things we need and want to talk about.

PLEASE EVERYONE understand it has nothing to do with what anyone is saying sobrity is sobriety I just would like to see the foum more balanced so that people who are tapering or not ready to jump feel more free to speak up

I know a lot of u have said you haven't seen any post where someone was kicked away and that I believe to be true but the fact still remains that I have come across several individuals who feel like outsiders because of their choice...they just need the right people to talk to and the door open for them to do that

I have always said all of you on here are awsome you guys rock... and if you don't believe me read through all my posts...so again it is just about opening another door...we never know what person is standing behind it and how much help they really need.

I just wanted to share a thought I had about your posts and the subject of tapering vs CT...

I've,personally, never noticed a huge difference in support depending on someone's choice of detox. As a matter of fact, this issue has come up often over the years and all have agreed it's a personal choice and sometimes necessary (to taper).

Also, in reference to tapering and advice/support, we can't really say much on this forum because tapering advice is not allowed. We aren't even supposed to agree with someone's taper plan, even if we do!  This has put many members in a difficult situation and has forced some to "go underground" with tapering advice through private messaging!  (Very dangerous...)   Because of this, you'll see an abundance of cold turkey advice and support as we can talk about that ad nauseam.

I only want to mention this to you to shed some light on what appears to be a situation here...I really doubt any of the long time members have pushed anyone one way or another. Sometimes it just boils down to what we can and can't talk about...and,personally,I have never been happy about that because tapering can be a reasonable, good choice for many people, if done properly.

I enjoyed your discussion. I admire your strength and.will.power.

Youbalways jump.in and lend.a hand.to.all.the new.people.here. And that means so.much when a person first joins and is scared.and.all.alone. When we first arrive here at the forum most.of.us are in crisis mode.

Its wonderful.to be able to get.the help.and.support and encouragement we need.to.take that ffirst step. Its dark and.scared when we arrive.here. We think were the only one with this big awful sick secret. Then we make.our way here and read and.read and.then get up.the nerve.to.post.  When we find were not alone its so much relief comfort etc.

Emotions run high when.were Detoxing. Anyway we choose. And in my opinion we cannot.get.clean alone. We need.a.strong support.group. We need.to.talk. We need to hear what others are doing.or.what theybaccomplish. And its.fun reading everyone's  thoughts and opinions. Were all individuals here. We all.have special.gifts to.contribute.

Hats off.to you....wishing you success.....hugs
