Sleep question

by changingbestfriends, Jun 14, 2008 08:10PM
Does anyone have any idea when going through withdrawals how long the lack of sleep lasts?  I am on day eight of withdrawing from Vicodin and I have had about 13 hours total sleep since I started.  I have drank tea that is supposed to help and it didn't work.  I just would like to know how long to expect to keep going like this.  Thanks!

Some people have good results with Tylenol PM. I used Melatonin and 1/2 Xanax, but only for a few days. Melatonin can be used at up to 10mg dose. As you get to sleep easier, cut the dose back. Normal dose can be 1mg or less.

Tylenol PM is Tylenol with Diphenhydramine in it. You can take it by itself, so you don't get too much Tylenol. CVS sells in in the sleep medication section. it is also called Benadryl.
Passion Flower is something else you can take, an herb. Calms Forte - you can find that in CVS sometimes, too.
I should think a little xanax would be helpful. Melatonin made me feel very weird.
Anyway, congrats and good luck!!!
By the way, what kind of tea? Regular tea has the equivalent of caffeine in it. That will keep you awake, don't drink that!!!
Maybe going to the health food store would help.
Anyway, it's great that you will be feeling normal again soon!!!!

I learned something from you today. I did not know that the sleep ingredient to TylenolPM was Diphenhydramine or 'Benadryl'. Thanks.

A couple of nights I have taken an Ambien because the two nights prior to that I had zero hours each night.

Omigod, I took a dose of Ambien, typical addict, which was someone else's and way too much, and slept like a log for too many hours. had to leave work the next day. But a lot of people like it - they were probably prescribed it by a doctor!

yeah, thanks! I know all kinds of things, just not that I should get clean now. Stupid addict.

most all otc sleep meds have benadryl in them...that is their mechanism....and i dont think there is such thing as a stupid addict...maybe just a stubborn addict

ambien and all those other regular ol sleep meds NEVER worked for me....melatonin neither....i've used a natural product containing passionflower and tart cherry which has worked wonders (also good to take every 2-4 hours during the day for anxiety)....but i think most of all, what i JUST discovered, is that taking 1000 mg of magnesium RIGHT before bedtime does the trick.....wow.....i have been taking mag for the past 6 months....but like 2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon.....never took all 4 tabs (totalling 1000 mg) at once at bedtime until just the other night.....i fell asleep immediately....couldn't believe it....and i've had sleep issues for TEN  years and was on ativan for 5 of those years specifically for sleep issue....anyway, good luck with whatever you find works for you (and tylenol pm and benadryl and nyquil and all that other otc stuff never worked for me either), and it would never hurt to try the magnesium.....it's good for you regardless and worth the try :-)  best of luck and many blessings for some GOOD sleep..... luv, kim

I use the Melatonin 5mg and 2 Valerian root an hour before bed that helps, a lot of physical activity during the day also helps probably more then anything. wish you luck with what ever you try...
