Anyone who'll listen....

I've been taking pain killers for 2 years now. I'm now at my all time peek where I am taking 20-25 Norco's per day.  I'm having back surgery in February, but I'll be needing help to get off of these damn things.  Any advice?

Are you going to take them until after the surgery and then detox ?  I would think you need to taper down before the surgery . Make sure you are honest with the doctors. It could be very dangerous going under anesthesia and them not knowing what you have been taking. Also there can be bleeding problems due to all the aspirin products in your system.  I am not trying to scare you. I know before any surgeries I have had they made me stop taking advil and aspirin about 4 days before surgery.  Please post back with your plan. We are here to help.   Mary

There are two was to quit taking the pills.  One is to slow tapper your dose day by day and at the last day when you stop completely the w/d (withdrawals) will be less sever.  Two is you can go c/t cold turkey the w/d process is rougher but the whole process can be over in a week. A hard week but it will be over sooner.  People find it hard to taper because of the self control issue.  Keep posting and others will give advise of what worked for them.  I did the c/t and I am on day 17 feeling good.

I'm afraid to give advice.  I'm new at this myself.  Just know you are not alone.
