herion addic

My son is 38 years old and has been using herion for 6 months.Since he was a teenager he used all kinds of drugs but  at 25 years old became a crack addic.I have watched his life fall apart he has went to prision two times no more than 9 months .Now since he has switched to herion he is in more trouble it seems everytime I turn around he is in jail , stealing to get more drugs.Sometimes he steals to get money to pay for food and a place to stay. Tomorrow I take him to court been doing that a lot lately.I want him to get help and he does too but he keeps getting turned down.He has no job is homeless and therefore, no current address and the detox center requires a utility bill showing he is a Wake county residence. he went into a place called the Healing Place  there isno detox and he is turned out everyday at 6 am and cannot return till 7 pm that evening.They mustgo to 2 meetings that last about an hour and then they have no where to go.They have to take there belonging with them everyday and hide them on the path because it is aprox 3 miles and carring bags everyday can be pretty heavy expecially, if you are withdrawing.They send them out everyday reguardless of the weather conditions even in the snow and cold.My son has no where to hang out inbetween meetings and when you are that sick you just want to lie down.He is throwing up or on the tolit but no place to go because business even the library will not let you come in without a library card.To me it seems inhumane to treat people like this.I know people who are addicted to cigaretts and if they were told they this is what they would have to go through  to get help well, they would not make it! How in the world do they that say they know all about drug addics turn them into the cold streets where they have to pass drug houses  day after day to get to their meetings is beyond me.This goes on from day one.I know in time they can get stronger but they definantly do not have THE TOOLS IN THE BEGINNING.Thanks for letting me vent but I am frustrated. It seems he is already up aganist a lot but there must be better treatment options for someone who has nothing left but his life.I have checked on other facilities but they want  them to go to a dr. first and have all these test done some which require money  he has no job no place to live and is addicted to a drug that could kill him so to me this sound crazy where is he supose to get the money to pay for this doctor and all these test? He cannot live with me my landlord will not allow this because he is not on the lease but even if he would he is an addic and I do not have the resourses to give him the treatment he needs.Yes he would be warm at my house but as soon as he starts to have withdraws I wouldn't know what to do.He needs counceling.I just am at my wits end He wants help he has walked to many meetings but then he gives in because they do not start counceling with them one on one till a few weeks pass most do not even get to those weeks .The place I am told gets money from the goverment for these programs so I can see why one out means one more in it all seems like some sort of racket because people that care treat people like human beings.If anyone out there knows of a good place in Raleigh North Carolina that he can get help please let me know.

good morning. mom i can sense your frustration. i can tell you one place for sure that is free. it is in nj. it is called youth challenge,dont be fouled by the name they take men from 18 and up there are men there now who are in their 50's. we are very involved in the ministry. my husband is an alumni and former director of the program. sorry it is now called renovation house, perth amboy, nj here is the link

The hospital  requires a utility bill showing he is a  county residence which he has no home or utility bill that is a requirement.We do not have a health Rite here and we have spent days on the internet calling addiction hotlines they do tell us places but the requirements are as I listed above.It is not easy to get in these places as you say my son keeps being turned away for either no insurance or no proof of redecency or physical test to make sure he is free of disease which he can't pay for.He is not clean and he is using mostly through criminal activity I guess.The addic will do what they have to to get high but their mind set is not to do what they have to to get well.It would be nice if instead of putting a needle in his arm he would instead go rent a place to live get the power turned on and then take the utility letter down to the hospital so he can get admitted in so he can start a detox...are you kidding that is an incrediable leap to get to the detox .No wonder he is shooting the drug up his arm.$75.00 for a fix or $1500.00 for rent to get a first utility bill so he can get off the drug long enough to make a good decision.My point is he will not make good decisions untill he can get the help he needs to detox and get drug counceling.I am so sick of hearing people say if he wants help it is out there ...it is not out there not, like you say.He needs a free place to go that will take him in without all the red tape involved.Once he gets clean he can give back to society but now hot lines only refer him to places but when we call we find out they all have too much red tape.So tell me if it were you and you were homeless sleeping from place to place no money eating out of dumsters,shoplifting to pay for your drug you need or you feel like you will die wanting to quit but not ableto do it on your own because will power is not enough ...what would you do.We live in Raleigh North Carolina if it is so easy send me the name of just one place that will take him with empty pockets ,no ID, no utility bill and I will put him there.I am so tired of seeing him cry and I am so tired of him being turned away...so name one place and please do your home work because I have done mine!

Is you son still using? If so how does he get his money? There is a lot of programs out there, do you have a clinic like Health Rite? Its free govt run for uninsured? What about the hospital? Have a mental crisis unit? Theere is always ways. If he wants it there has to be a way! Call the addiction hotline. You can find it in the front of the phone book. They may be able to help! My names  IsJames i am a  heroin ddictof 14 yrs Im just home from rehab and im 50 days clean and very proud of myself. I had to hit rock bottom or i would have well not been hear  for much sooner  Your son has not been usin Heroin that long let him read this coz its down hill all the way with Heroin i hope your son can take somthing from this  Ill say a prayfer for you and your son Good luck and my best wishes ,,,,,James

Thanks Debbie but I know someone who just went to Teen Challenge and it cost her family around $1,000.00 that is alot of money for someone homeless.I found another place called Bethal House and they want $200.00 up front and sever medical test first all close to $100.00.This is my whole point I have been trying to find a place for him I watch his face each time another door is closed.

it is a hard road to be a caretaker for a loved one who is addicted. i have done it for both my husband and my son. if your son wants to be clean, there is an option. he can go to a christian drug and alcohol rehab. most require no pay. they are usually long term 9 months to 18 months.  he has had a life time addiction this is the place for him. it not only cleans him up , it gives him hope, it will help him learn to live without drugs. try teen challenge there are about 5 in north carolina, not sure of proximity to raleigh. i believe addiction is a spiritual bondage , definitely from the pits of hell. he needs something new to help him live a life of hope and freedom from drugs. it can be done i know many man who have been in the program and the success rate of long term sobriety is 87% much much higher then secular programs. despite the name teen challenge it is for men of all ages. check it out on the computer, but he needs to call, not you. he is a man now and he needs to take the reins of his life.
