Feeling sick

Hi I have a question...I was prescribed tramadol after surgery in November.  I'm allergic to codeine and Vicodin so they gave me 50 mg tramadol.  I've been taking one or two a day everyday since November.  I ran out the day before yesterday.  I didn't go to work today my body hurts sooooo bad...I have so much to do today and I can't get out of bed.  Does anyone know what I can do to feel better I went to the store bought sleeve but that s not helping I have never been in so much pain before in my life.  After reading all the posts I had no idea how adDicting this dumb little pill is can anyone give me some suggestions because I need to get to work a lot of ppl depend on me I woke up in sweats just terrible.  ;(

Hi and welcome . . . I am so sorry you are feeling bad, but glad you found this site!  There are several things you can do/try to help with your symptoms.  Check out the "Thomas Recipe" listed on the bottom right of this page under "Most Viewed Health Pages".  This is a kind of protocol for withdrawal from opiates and it's full of great information about helpful remedies for common w/d symptoms.   During my detox from tramadol I had a LOT of trouble with the hot/cold sweaty thing too.  Hot baths helped a ton (I spent a few hours each day in the tub that first week!).  Epsom salts in the water will help w/the aches and restlessness.  Showers are fine if you have no tub.  I would pile up clean towels, washcloths, and cotton, comfy clothes, so that when I had a "meltdown" I would change in to clean, dry things and it felt so good.  Magnesium tablets (1000mg per day for the first few weeks), helped a lot too, as well as Vitamin Water "Revive" - full of potassium, b vitamins, vit C and electrolytes - great stuff the first week. I ate a lot of bananas too - again, the potassium thing.   These all seemed to help a lot with the body sweats, anxiety and restlessness.

Tramadol is a med that does not like to "let go" easy, even at the low dose you have been taking.  I took this for a long time and withdrawal was not fun, but you WILL get through it.  You have already gone 2 full days without any pills, right?  The worst of the physical stuff should peak at or about day 3 and then get a little better each day from there.  Given your low dose I would think that the physical w/d will not last more than a week or so.  Unfortunately due to the anti-depressant effect of tramadol, you may feel some emotional ups and downs for awhile longer.  These symptoms are manageable and if you can stay close to this site you will get support to help you through.  Right now just concentrate on one day at a time.  It will get better . . hang in there :)
