Stopping oxy's also what's up with the Ultram thing?

I have been on oxy's for about 4 years and I just am sick of the drug game I mean counting pills to see if I have enough and I told my Doctor a couple weeks ago and he is going to help me tapper off of them.  I did take 100 mgs a day and am now down to 90 mgs a day I know it does not sound like that much of a cut back but trust me it is for me.  My doctor is great about the whole thing. I told him I did not think I could do it in 6 mths since I have been taking this for 4 years and he replied it will prob. take longer than that, but the way I am looking at this is I have been on it 4 years so whats 7 or more months and be drug free.  I have to tell myself everyday when I wake up that I can do this and I want my old like back not needing pills to leave the house or be happy.  Also would someone please tell my how come everyone is saying that Ultram is VERRY BAD  I was given a script of them about 2 months ago and I have not taken any of them yet but all I read here is that they are very bad.  I looked them up on the web and found that they are not addicting and not a opoid, so what is so bad about them you can even buy them on the internet so if they are an opiod you would not be able to buy them on the web without a script.  I just want to understand about them before I do start taking them.   I thank all of you for all the help I have gotten here and still am anyone that is trying to quit any drug even with a doctor's help like myself can get alot of help here I just wanted to say thanks.  Debbie

I too am coming off 100mg (sometimes more) or oxys...and tramadol DOES help you with the withdrawals. I completely switched...just take tramadol, with some clonidine to help clean out my system, and I do not experience any withdrawals. I believe and feel that oxys are a lot harder coming off of than the tramadol. Anyone can wean themselves off the tramadol, especially after being a severe opiate user. You do not get that same feeling of wanting like you do with oxys.
I am doing it...and doing great. And I wish others the same luck I am having!

Even if one person can take them on and off its never a good Idea to tell others to do that . Ultram has ruined the last few years of my life. Made my life hell and is harder to get off of than anything else I have ever taken. It works just like an Opioid and no matter who tells you its harmless its not and they need to read up on it before telling you that . Good luck and please read so that you dont end up addicted to that

It is never a good idea to recommend to  anyone addicted to  narcotics to take ultram as any type or replacement or a WD tool . It is highly addictive and it can cause sezuires .
Also it dangerous to buy online you have NO idea what you may be getting . This is one of the times we need to use our common sense.

I don't know about them being a synthetic or quazi opoid.  A doctor did tell me that they effect the central nervous system so that is probably the cause of it being a physical or
psychologic addictive drug.

I have to totally disagree to Loan11. It may have worked for her off & on for 10 years. But there are way too many here that have had horrible problems with it. Once hooked on them they too are awful to w/d from. Even Lana says " Problem is, when you stop taking Ultram, you will go into the same withdrawal symptoms."
They are a synthetic opiate. On their site it says;"Tramadol is an opioid agonist of the morphine-type. Such drugs are sought by drug abusers and people with addiction
disorders and are subject to criminal diversion."
On drugs.com it says:"Before taking tramadol
You should not take tramadol if you have ever been addicted to drugs or alcohol, if you are currently intoxicated (drunk), or if you have recently used any of the following drugs:
      alcohol;
      narcotic pain medicine;
      sedatives or tranquilizers (such as Valium);
      medicine for depression or anxiety;
      medicine for mental illness (such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia); or
     street drugs."
Please be very cautious  with Tramadol. I would never recommend it for w/d.

I have taken Ultram (tramadol) on and off for 10 years.  When I have gotten off the Percocets, Ultram stopped all withdrawal symptoms.  Problem is, when you stop taking Ultram, you will go into the same withdrawal symptoms.  I know what you mean about everyone on this site saying Ultram is so terrible but I have never had any problem whatsoever.  The good thing about taking Ultram in place of the Percocets is you don't crave taking them so you take less.  You can take less, get refills from the doctor or buy online, and it is easier to taper off the Percocets, Vics or whatever opiates you are on.  I just know I will take a lot more Percocets if I have them than take the Ultram because it is not the same feeling.  The Ultram just makes you feel normal while you are withdrawing.  At least that is my experience.

I'm on Day 25 off Tramadol. I'm only now starting to feel better. This morning I couldn't get up at the 5:30 am mark, and missed a meeting, but I'm not on Tramadol!  Right now my guts ache. But I have a clear head and I can feel things again. I'm me ... again.

Addicted and dependant doesn't matter to Tramadol ... the physical symptoms of withdrawal are opiate symptoms. With some randomw weirdness thrown in. It made my pain worse, it gave me suicidal ideation ... all almost gone now.

I'm in no way functioning normally. Ultram adds in some tylenol (just what your live needs) and tramadol doesn't. You can get anything on the internet. Doesn't mean it's safe. Sweden reclassified Tramadol/Ultram as a dangerous Narcotic in May 2008. Most Doctors were told this was the magic bullet, the golden fleece for chronic pain patients.

Withdrawing from them has been one of the most painful experiences I have ever had. Not just physical symptoms. It is mixed with a very old antidepressant. So you get a two-fer one withdrawal. For me, it was like when I w/d from Benzos. That severe.

I'd wish Ultram/Tramadol only on my worst enemy. Luckily I only have one enemy! LOL!

You seem like a nice person; don't take the bad icky Ultram/Tramadol lie. It's lies all lies ...

You're doing so well to taper off one thing, don't take any other junk .... esp not tramadol/ultram!

((((hugs))))

You're going to be able to taper. You're so smart to ask your Doctor for help!

Love and healing,
Emily

I am addicted to them and its worse to come off of than any other drug that I have taken. They are bad news and people can tell you all day that they arent addictive but they are and once you are hooked its awful. Good luck with your journey seems that you have a great plan =)

Keep your head up
