Suboxone-WOW!

I am on my 7th day of Suboxone....after 3 attempts to quit cold turkey..my doc finally said I should try the Sub......and from the moment I took the first dose, I have been a new person, or should I say- back to the person I was before I had my surgeries and dependant on Lortabs....
If anyone is having the W/D's , for me this is a no brainer....it made it sooo easy to get over all of the symptoms!

I've been on suboxone for a while now, and believe me when I say that it practically saved me.  I had back surgery and they put me on vicodin and before you knew it I was popping them like they were tic tacs.  one day I heard a very famous comedian mention he was put on subutex for his opiate addiction on a radio show, so I started to research it.  I went to a doctor for help and he has me on 8mg of suboxone a day.  I break it up into small pieces now and take it when I start to feel the withdrawal symptons.

This medicine saved my life.  I dont know what I wouldve done if I wouldve kept going the way I was.  Now I wake up feeling normal and I can actual cope with all the stresses that life is throwing at me.

I'm to a point now where I can make 1 (8mg)suboxone last me more that one day, so hopefully, with the help of my family I can ween myself of it.

One of the most important things for any of us is to have a plan and to stick to it.  It is great to see that sub is working for some people...and all addicts are different so long term meds vs. quick detox is something that will vary...

I hope things continue to improve for you.  Best of luck...continue posting and have a great day.

Please remember to replenish your bodies supply of vitamins...that is very important.

If you're seriously interested in reading all types of stories from people who got off, who are getting off and /or people who are staying on Suboxone and Subutex, I would sugget you go to opiatedetoxrecovery DOT com or the Sub site support forum as well, naabt DOT org

I sort of agree with everyone.  I know that dosen't really provide any help.  LOL
I can see where long term usage would be benficial to some, i.e., those who aren't able to stop and who know they are unable to stop BUT I can also see where using it to simply bypass the acute stages of withdrawal is beneficial as well.
As with all treatments of addiction, you need to get to the reasons behind it.  You need to find out why you cannot live a "normal" life without the aid of outside substances.  Even those who got "hooked" due to real pain sooner or later use it to mask actual emotions and use it to get on with daily life.  I know, I'm both an addict who battled alcohol and cocaine for years and am 6 years clean and I am also someone who got "hooked" because of real pain and it skyrocketed form there.  I am in no way blaming anyone but myself for the latter.  I knew of my propensity to addiction when I started the pills no matter how bad my pain was and I allowed myself to deny those facts for my convenience.
I chose a quick 21 day detox with Subutex not Suboxone.  I had withdrawals but they wer mid.  My PAWS lasted a very long time and without my anti-depresant and my AA group, I would have very easily slipped right back telling myself I would only take one or two to get me by.
You have to want sobriety.  You have to want to be free of drugs.  You have to be sick and tired of being sick and tired.  No pill is going to get you there,  You have to get there by yourself.  It's a very lonely place to be but there are ways to help yourself.  If you're looking to live your life dependent on any drug you're going to cover up issues that need to be out in the open.  It's very freeing but it can be very painful.
I suggest anyone who is on or thinking about getting on Suboxone think seriously about their life and their reasons for using before they make any decisions because whether you believe it or not, life is worth living SOBER, your life especially.

Well i have been on sub since May...i chose the long term route because there are studies now that show long term use of sub has a 78% success rate...its not that new of a drug anymore and is used more now than ever before...it can be used so many different ways (short detox, long term ,for pain, and i have even heard of it being prescribed for depression(which i found to be odd, but...)), and can be tailored to suit the individual...the horror stories, yeah, i have heard them all...BUT...i am sure the whole story isnt presented with all of these horror stories, being overly anxious to get off and jumping off too quickly even at 2 mgs, will cause withdrawals symptoms, i have heard of plenty of success stories for people who have taken it long term too...of course if your ABLE to do a detox with sub and are confident that your strong enough to not go back to your d.o.c, then that IS best...but its just not that simple for most unfortunatley...and your right...some intensive therapy or meeting (anything or something) HAS to be included with it no matter which route you take...gotta learn the tools of the trade, or it will be a wasted effort.

Too many doctors don't bother explaining just how serious and strong this drug is.  They say it's a miracle drug.  Well, i wonder if they would still feel that way if they heard half of the horror stories people have from trying to detox off of it.
If more people knew just how insanely hard it ws to come off this drug, I bet it would be used as a quick detox tool and nothing more.
Methadone was a iracle drug at one point too and look where they got everyone years later.
I appalud you for doing something pro-active about your addiction but I'm scared for you too and your plan to use this stuff long-term.
I hope you use it just long enough to get your life back together and get into a serious program of NA or counseling and then get off without having too hard of a time.
What I'm reading is that people who have been on long term and try to get off go through hell so they take a few painkillers to end that hell and the cycle starts again.
I realize you only want to help and that's great.   You have made up your mind about what you want to do and although I'm not trying to change your mind other people need to know what they're in for.

I don't understand why you're so hostile. He asked about why someone was doing a quick taper and I explained it.  I didn't say it was right for him.  I am in no way advocating quick detoxes for everyone.
There are also other things besides more drugs that help addicts stay clean for a liftetime.
If an addict doesn't get to their core issues and stays on this maintenance plan, then they are in danger of picking up another habit to satisfy their addictive nature.

Not everyones' plan is for a quick detox 10-21 days.. There are alot more addcits on here that are so far gone with abuse that a longer term maintanance program would be the best way to go.. Yes, if the ONLY thing you need help with is getting over the bad withdrawls hump sure it is a good idea for a quicker detox plan.. But, if you are someone who has abused and replapsed time over time over time again with NOTHING helping to stay clean for good!  Then maybe it is time to realize that even though you have to be taking "some narcotic opiate that is controlled" that is better than trying the c/t withdrawl approach just to relapse over and over again, and possibly hurt or Kill one's self..

To me it sounds smarter to make sure to combat the issues with a longer term program that will allow the addict to start rebuilding simple fundamentals for life again.  Then also seek AFTERCARE!  Then after all of these things have been addressed, then one can worry about a very very slow taper for the LAST, once and for-all withdrawl"if any"!

EVERY ADDICT IS DIFFERENT, HINTS THE REASON THAT EVERY ADDICTION RECOVERY NEEDS TO BE TALOR FITTED TO THE INDIVIDUAL!!!!!!!

Mike, the doctors know a ot about how patients do ON this drug but don't have many reports to how people do OFF this drug.  It's still a narcotic, a very powerful one.  It's still an opiod so you're still not producing the necessary endorphins your body would naturally.  Yes, you're blocking withdrawal but you're still using a drug.
With all my research and with speaking to a few doctors, the concensus is, less is best.  So take the least amount you have to to keep yourself from withdrawing.  The people who have been on this stuff long term (over a month) say it's worse getting off than the original DOC.  I would suggest a 10-21 day detox for the last amount of withdrawals.
I started out today at 2 mg then took another 2 later on in the day and I feel OK, not great but ok.  I will start my very aggressive taper tomorrow by starting and staying at only 2mg. I am going to be done within 12 days and I'l just hope for the best.

Hi B,
I was glad to read your post. I started my Sub last Monday as well and feel just great. So good that I cannot believe it somedays. I never, ever thought I would feel this good trying to stop taking te Vicodins. I started the same dose as you, 1 8mg tab in am and 1 8mg tab in pm. I am still on this does though. I see you have an agressive taper plan. Is there a reason for this? My Doctor did not suggest this to me. I don't know if it was because of how much Vic I was taking each day (15-20 Norco a day). or if its because I told him I felt so damn good (after the first few days) I dont ever wantt o stop taking these things if I can feel this good.....lol. He and I have discussed that this is a narcotic and tapering may be mecessary. I don't know, I just saw that you were tapering very quickly and I guess I wanted to findout how you felt, if you still have urges, does the decrease in Sub make you feel any withdrawal..? etc... Anything you can tell me would be appreciated B.Thanksalot and congratulations on your progress. I"m proud to here of your success.

I started last Monday with 1- 8MG in the morning, then 1- 8mg in the evening...did this for the first 3 days....then decreased days 4-6 I did- 1- 8mg in the am, and 4mg in the PM....now I am at Days 7....I take 4mg twice a day for days 7-10.....
Then I take 2- 2mg three times a day for 5 days, and after each 5 day period, I drop 2 mg's, until I am at zero.....
He gave me 50 of the 2mg's today to finish my taper down with....as I mentioned...I feel GREAT!>..and I dont mean the great I would get from the LORTAB buzz....but I am GREAT as in myself!!!

I started out on Vicodin 7.5- I would take 4- 2 times a day...in AUg of 2007
after my surgeries I was switched to Lortab 10/500.....I would take 5- 2 times a day....
even after the pain stopped, I enjoyed the buzz from them...and it was too late for me to quit on my own.....
