Subuxone

This is all very interesting reading but also very confusing. My husband just started taking this drug to detox from opiates (perscription, although I know it dosen't matter...an addict is an addict) a week ago. He's having a really difficult time. He has no energy, intense stomach problems, agitation, and major confusion. The first day he took this drug we were amazed because it was like he was his old self. We thought this would be the answer. As the days have passed he has gotten worse. Tomorrow he sees the Dr. and they are going to explain this med and how it works. (He was too out of it the first visit)
Is this going to help him or will be just trading one drug for another? I'm wondering also....how is this going to heal his brain if it's just another opiate?

everyone has an opinion about suboxone... like mom of 2 said- make sure the doc you have is knowledgeable- or the subs can be  negative experience

Suboxone will stop the addiction insanity. I know some people say you are trading one drug for another but I look at it as saving my life. Suboxone will stop the addictive behavior but your husband will be dependent on it and will need to wean off when stopped. For me, suboxone has given me time to recover so then when the time comes to wean off I will be strong enough to do it. It sounds like your husband may be on too high of a dose. Please talk to your doctor about this. I had no energy on too high a dose and when I lowered the dose I had energy again.

I am finding that weaning off of suboxone to be much easier than opiates. I mean I could never of weaned off of opiates because of the cravings. I have no cravings at all with suboxone. Beware of doctors out there that do not know much about this drug they are prescribing. I hope you have a good doctor. If not do lots of research. I hope everything works out well for the both of you. Also, when I first started suboxone, it took me about a week to stabalize at a dosage and feel better.
Best Wishes!

it could help him if he does the work to get himself ready to be clean..as far as him feeling bad, could be his dose is too high or too low..often drs prescribe too much..alot has to do with their DOC and dose before the sub...a 80 mg a day hydro user may only need 2 mgs a day of sub...a 300 mg oxy user may need a full 32 mgs to start with...but many times they over prescribe it and give people too much causing side effects such as sleepiness...but if it is not enuf he would still experience wd symptoms which is not pleasant either...sub builds up in the blood and hangs around a long time later..so it is very likely that after a few days the receptors r saturated and the dose can be reduced..this is why it is important to follow up with the dr and talk with him about how he feels...good luck to him!
