Day 6 off Hydro 10/325 for 6 years

On day 6 clean of norco's 10/325  5 + a day for 6 years . Very fatigued, head clearing, not so paranoid. Don't feel like doing much, not much appetite and now finding it really hard to sleep . Feeling quite functional sort of. Some enthusiasm and unfogged mostly. What next, someone suggested a doctor friend suggested a bit of daily rigorous exercise to work up sweat and get natural endorphins going. Any other suggestions. Not saying I feel normal whatever that is. I do notice as I think back how difficult it was to deal with stress and was more irritable, short fused while taking these damn pills. When I ran out and eventually quit it felt literally like my head was in a vice. Not so  sweaty, cold fluey symptoms gone, but exercise sounds good. Any other ideas, hoping my old natural liveliness returns soon. I start out quite well, but fade quickly and don't have much patience to hang out with friends and so on. Any ideas folks, does this seem like 'normal' for someone who's been taking these things for so long?

Good morning Pete,
Congrats on your decision to get clean!  I personally am on day 24 and I am coming off of opiate abuse.

How you are feeling is pretty typical for 6 days in......a lot of people experience hightened anxiety initially and that does subside each day a bit more.  You are right about the exercise, you want to get natural endorphines helping you out.

Are you familiar with the "Thomas Recipe"; it's hightly recommended here.
I know others will chime in shortly and help you with tips.

Because I can't take anything for anxiety myself....I do a lot of relaxation deep breathing......you know......slow and long breath through nose filling diaphram not chest.....then out your mouth slow and long as well. Do five of
these and you'll get what I mean about relaxing.

I've been taking drugs for a quarter of a century so if I can be feeling better by this time clean so can you!!

Good luck my friend, I'll be watching your progress and cheering you on.

Welcome!! Today is day 14 for me off of Norco.

Take hot bathes with epsom salts a couple of times a day. It will help with the muscle aches & help you to sleep.

I take melatonin (from GNC) - and some nice realxing tea - about an hour before bed.

I had anxiety BAD when I first stopped and on day # 4 I caved and took pills - I had to go to work then & didn't think I could do it. Then I forund the Thomas recipe and it has helped a lot.

Take some good vitamins & minerals too.

Drink Gatorade to replace the minerals you are losing.

Hang in there!! The first 5 days were the worst physically for me.

CONGRATULATIONS!  I started my very own same battle over 8 years ago.
Over the next few days you are going to see the fatigue subside I do recommend exercising but very limited and adding exercise slowly each day.  Remember you did not get here overnight so you will not recover overnight either.  On a positive note you are over the roughest of detox symptoms.
In my opinion a crucial part you should be doing now is drinking plenty of water, it flushes out the toxins in your body, replaces lost water from perspiration, possibly diarrhea, etc.  Water has been shown to expedite the process of flushing your system; it also replaces the lost fluids during detox process.  You may notice some diarrhea as mentioned; try taking some generic over the counter anti-diarrheal meds as prescribed to aid you until your bowels return to normal.
You will continue to have mixed emotions just like any of us who have went through a detox plan, bouts of euphoria, enthusiasm, and then followed by sluggish body, foggy mind, etc. This is common.  Any human’s brain is set up to fire its own endorphins, dope mean, etc. When we are prescribed medication or take medication period that replaces something our bodies are used to doing on its own the human body kind of thinks to itself, “I can stop this now, it is being given to me.”  After a while they will learn to work correctly just like your natural liveliness.  Sooner than you probably think but each case is different.  I hate to state a time frame not knowing your age, etc. in case others are searching here for answers as well.
It is important however that you monitor your food intake.  Try to eat a little something in the morning, afternoon and night.  Basically gets a schedule going so your body has that routine.  I would try saltines, in the morning, or even oatmeal or fresh fruit.  Bananas are a great fruit at this time because your legs need the potassium.  I will cover this farther ahead.

Sleeping for you right now will be hard to find but take it when you can, avoid late naps and caffeine.  Your brain is waking up in a sense, being on the meds depressed normal brain activity not just some organs in the body like lungs, heart, etc.  As your brain learns the meds are gone, transmitters will begin to start that rapid fire process again.

To address the sleep issues without causing addiction to other meds try using non caffeinated beverages,   warm milk, or any Homeopathic over the counter product that are inexpensive carries meds and creams that will help with leg cramps, restless leg syndrome,  stress relief, night sleep aid, etc.

I personally researched a company by the name of Hylands which produces homeopathic products to combat Stress Relief, Leg Cramps, Restless Leg Syndrome and Good Night Sleep if I am not mistaken.  I have taken all of these products with no habit forming issues.  These are sold over the counter and worked wonders for me.  They can be found at many major retailers such as or online.

I recommend that you start on a daily vitamin any multi vitamin should work for you.  Since your diet is minimal at the moment the vitamin nourishes the body or vital nutrients that we are missing.  I would continue using them daily.  I always kept some ibuprofen handy not to replace pills with pills but ibuprofen will reduce the inflammation in your body, aid with the aches and pains daily.

I chose to add a vitamin supplement that I read about online B-12 sublingual dots or you can get this in a liquid it will help with your energy level being returned to normal.  Benadryl also worked for sneezing, watery eyes, in my case due to weight I could take one a day to assist and two 30 minutes before  bed and it helped as a sleep aid allowing me to clear my sinus area and sleep all in one.

Again, I would increase your daily exercise only do what you feel you can do, over doing this will lead to aches and pains.  Keep in mind those aches and pains will feel worse since your brain is just learning to produce dopamine again.  Just to reassure you the stages that you are in may come and go off and on for a little longer.  Each person is different and so is the recovery.  In my opinion you are right in the place you should be.

You may see some increased sneezing, sensitivity to light, increased sex drive, increased energy levels and for a while sleep is few and far between.  I was always told it was just my mind waking up from the fog.   Glad you are past the first 4-5 days as those seem the worst.

Plenty of water, daily vitamins, fresh fruits, minimal to increasing exercise and of course  increase your diet slowly even if you eat a few small bites frequently through the day as this will give your body energy that it is going to need.   The better the food going in the better the energy level you’re going to get out.  Increase your proteins like meat, poultry, fish, peanut butter, etc.

**As always check with your family physician, pharmacist, etc. before adding any supplements mentioned.

Best of luck friend and please keep me posted!

Day 16 I think. Eating ok, not too much. I have only just got on here again and seen your kind comments and advice. Sleep is still all over the place, but I am not bothered about that. A few headaches, but ibuprofen is fine. Really starting to feel clear about a lot of things. I have taken more positive and creative action i the last week than I have for quite a few years, quite amazing. Still taking it easy. I find that I have low tolerance for any kind of arguement or disagreement. Am quite happy just being quiet and enjoying flow of positivity that has been missing for years. Some dark nights though, but about 6 days ago, I looked round my place and was horrified. Major clean up and got a lot of stuff done that I had been hiding from.Early days, but onwards and upwards. Thanks . Another thing, I am so pleased I was able to be totally alone , no girlfriend or family around me. It gave me the space to be sick and slobbish and unwell and I let myself off of doing any work at all for that first week. Thanks again everybody

Congrats on your clean time; hold it near and dear to your heart!   You made me feel better because I really have let things go in this house!  I had such guilt about lying in this bed for 3 days!  But I am just gonna be happy that I am a whopping 4 days clean! Congrats again

Even though you may be through the height of withdraws, long hot baths and exercise, like you said, were my friends for weeks and weeks afterwards. They really did help me! And Imodium really made me feel a lot better, both with the lingering bathroom issues, and just overall!  Sounds cliche, but take it easy on yourself and give it time. Each day will get a little better.
