Terrible backpain today??

Okay guys day 7... And I feel really good, and happy and etc. Called dr this am and told them no more pain meds. Here is the thing, I have been exercising my butt off since day 1. Last night I RAN a half mile on the treadmill, boy it felt great!! But the thing is, I do have 2 herniated discs.. What's your thought?? Did I overdue the exercise or could it be wd pain that I just don't see?? Also I have absolutely NO desire to take pain meds at all!!!!! I am taking ibuprofen, sitting here with a 10s unit on now. I could barely do my morning walk today... Thoughts??

I have three compressed discs and thee compression fractures as well.   What i find that really helps is an inversion board, basically what it is- is a free standing device which you strap your ankles too, and lay flat on this board which pivots in the center. then you invert your self so you are on a steep angle held up by your ankles, your head nearest the floor. A half hour to an hour a day of this really helps take the pressure off your spinal cord, and helps those compressed discs relax a little.   Takes a while of getting used to though. At first I could barely stand being inverted for 10 mins at a time. I sit in a wheelchair all day and sometimes the pain from those compressed disks is excruciating.
Another simple exercise is flexing your neck, forcing your chin onto your chest as much as tollerable, then  backwards to your back, this pulls on the spinal cord and moves it slightly up and down in the spinal canal. it can ease a pinched nerve out and ease the pain quit a bit sometimes.

Thanks.. I needed that. I have been telling myself ( and know) the same things you said. Maybe I just needed to hear it from someone else. Anyways I am siting here streaming in tears from the pain, but I am trucking right on through it. I have been to PT, but it was years ago... I tried a few of the old exercises today but I know I need to do them daily to be effective:(.... I will make it, I think it would be easier if I could just lay around but I can't. I have to take care of my 4 year old..... My spouse won't be home till late tonight.

You may hate those pills now but if you take one you'll fall right back in love. It's kinda like that first serious relationship. You may think you're over her/him but if you see a picture the memories come back and you get that "what if" feeling.

I too have herniated discs. I've had two surgeries for one of them. As you know, there are some days where the pain is immense and other days where it is fine. On those days where it's immense, you just have to take it easier and push through. You know that the pain will pass. To me, living in physical pain is nothing compared to the hell of living in active addiction. It's an easy tradeoff in my opinion.

Have you been to physical therapy? If so, they should have given you core strengthening and stretching exercises to do at home. One of the main causes of back pain is weak stomach and back muscles. Core strengthening exercises will help this and in turn, help your back. Lay off the jogging for awhile but continue to go on short walks. If your back acts up, take a few days off. Also be sure to eat healthy. Your muscles won't repair themselves properly if you aren't eating right. If you take care of your body it will take care of you.

Hang in there. Seven days is awesome but you're at the prime spot for rebound pain. It may not seem like rebound pain entirely but some of it is. It makes that back pain seem more intense than what it actually is. It's your mind trying to get you to give in and give it what it wants and it sounds like it has you thinking. That's exactly what our brain tries to do. Those thoughts will become further and further apart the more clean time you rack up.

Don't ever give in, even for a two day supply. That two day supply will get you right back to where you started.

You're doing great! Keep it up!

Best of luck!
