Tramadol

Hello,
I am a 43 years old and have been taking tramadol 200 morning and night for around 2 years since I had back surgery. My back is relatively fine now since I started a training programme 1 year ago at my local gym. However, I am having a great deal of trouble stopping the tramadol. When the tramadol wears off from the morning I experience a drop in mood, depression like and aches and pains all over my body similar to that of a flu. The tramadol is s 12 hour slow release and it seems as though ad soon as it wears off I start go get these symptoms. I would like to stop taking these drugs! Is this a normal occurrence? And what should I do?.

Hi and welcome

I sent a PM with the sheet to you BUT since you are under the care of a doctor I advise you print it out and take it with you.....your doctor will be able to tell you what things will be best for you and what you should avoid.  This is important because we do not know your medical history....for instance...you may be allergic to valerian...we just don't know so really do advise you make sure any of the suggestions on the paper be discussed with your doctor.

You'll do great...but tramadol is one of the drugs that is best tapered rather than doing a detox CT....

Come back and let us know how it is going :-)

Hi there. Yup, that is a normal occurance: you are detoxing. Detox feels like the flu. There is a whole bunch of stuff to take when an addict quits, it's called the Thomas recipe and it's on this forum. Also we have someone here called "PurrfectlyCrazy" who has an entire list of everything to expect so go to here name on here and look her up:) Withdrawls last 7 to 10 days and then you start to slowly feel better.

Also, aftercare is a must: when the drugs are gone, we need help w/ what's behind the addiction.

Keep posting! And other peeps will be on here w/ more help:)

Hello and welcome. Yes you are experiencing withdrawal symptoms.
Your body has become dependent on the tramadol.
Please contact your doctor. You will have to do a slow taper.
Cutting out one pill at a time over a period of time.
This will lessen the withdrawal symptoms.
You are taking 400 mgs daily?
Tramadol also has a anti depressant component in them.
How often do you see your doctor?
