Tramadol to help withdrawals?

Daughter is on day 3 of detox. Still in a lot of pain. She does have a prescription for tramadol so yesterday we did give her one every 8 hours. She is determined to go to work today...wants one Tramadol to get her thru. should we give it to her?

Check your area to see if they have some Alateen meetings for your daughter.  It is good you have a close relationship with your child but she is 11 and this becomes alot for her to take in.  When this sort of thing happens the roles sometimes get reversed and the child feels like they need to protect us and try to be the parent.

Please don't take this the wrong way...but an 11 year old should not have to shoulder the burden of adult problems.  You shouldn't be putting her in the position of confiding in her about heavy duty issues.  She is just a child.

I understand you don't have a big support system, but you should then go out and seek some adult peers, like from NA/AA to lean on.  It's just not appropriate for you to be "turning" to your daughter.  You need to maintain the parent/child relationship, with YOU being the parent.

Children of addicts already have a heck of a cross to bear (as you know first hand), without adding a sense of insecurity that she somehow needs to be a support for you.  It's just not fair to put her in that position.  Please think about that.  I mean this with all due respect.

thank you again, Sarah.
I am so aware of how important it is to take care of myself. The other day I had finally sat down and actually said to myself"You need to eat something" I realized that I was starting to get way over consumed with my daughter and not taking care of me. Very hard thing to do but it is so important. Saw my therapist on Monday an I'm going to see her again today. I'm trying to come up with a plan to make sure I'm taking care of me. Right now, that includes therapy, sleeping and eating well and trying to push myself out of the house to separate myself more...even if its just taking myself or the dogs for a walk.Slow and steady.
