how can I lessen the withdrawal symptoms from oxycodone?

I have 2 spine diseases aling with 2 bulging discs and a ruptured disc. I have been taking oxycodone for 10 years... I got sober for a year but got back on due to pain. When I detox ed from oxy before I thought I was going to die cold turkey from 30mg a day. I'm now prescribed 30mg oxycodone, 6 times a day... I only take 2 of the 30, s... sometimes 3. I'm scared to death to go through withdrawal again. Does and one know a way to detox from oxycodone in a way that I don't end up like last time, considering even suicide. I'm terrified. I was told by a guy to go to 10mg methadone for 2 days... then suboxin for 2 to e.. then quit. I read about meths and subs and they too are very sddictive.. what would be the point? Help me please :-/ I have to have surgery in a month so I don't kniw if I should do it after or before the surgery? I know they're going to dope me up because my spine surgery is a combo of 4 procedures all at once :-( I don't want to detox now just to have to repeat again after surgery ya know! Grrrr so frustrating. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance!!!

Hi Wendy and Welcome,

I have to agree that Methadone or suboxone would be a huge mistake. they are both addictive and that is surely the last thing you want. And please do not consider Tramadol as suggested above. That is also an addictive substance and carries with it a whole new set of problems.

Have you talked with your pm doctor about this? I suggest that you discuss your concerns and see if they will put you on a taper so that you won't be at such high levels when you go for the surgery. After which you can again ask to be taken down slowly to ensure success. Let us know what you think. Either way we can be here to support you through this.

I'm sorry your going through what you are and can tell you your not alone. I to have to go back under the knife in a month and a half  to re-infuse my discs. But I have decided to detox and am in day 9 if a hardcore addiction of Oxy and Hydro. All from my pain management Dr. This time I went cold turkey but have eased the withdrawals before with some other medicines. Tapering is always best but fir me I can't do that because I'm an addict just telling the truth here. But I have tapered with tramadol before with very low doses 50-100mg for the first few days and that seemed to keep me from the worst. Also Clonodine had helped with sleep the first couple days. Substituting one with another isn't always the best thing to do but I also believe if you don't have to be in mystery  and can ease the pain than it's ok. There's nothing wrong with that and it might add a couple more days to your detox but again not miserable. Just giving you some if my experience. I couldn't do that this time around so it's been a really tough time and had been the longest I have ever detoxes in 12 years. Hang in there you have someone who depends on you and that will also help pull you through to do the right thing. Nothing better than love giving and receiving. This place is full of carrying people that have helped me to no end. I have been so close to falling in the last couple days from the "mind games" but deciding to post here and getting the support I have has truly pulled me through another day. Remember one thing GOD lives you and forgives you no matter how or what you think about yourself. Your good people I know this because of how you want to take care of your family. Stay strong keep reading and posting, we will help you get through this, after all we are all doing this together.
